Given that ROGUE ONE is just a year and a half away, it looks like more of the cast is beginning to be revealed. Aside from Felicity Jones being the first  cast member announced for the Gareth Edwards spin-off, Lucasfilm has been reluctant to officially announce who will be standing beside her. Now Variety is reporting that the next actor to join Riz Ahmed and Ben Mendelsohn will be none other than Diego Luna. Luna dabbled a bit in sci-fi with Neill Blomkamp's ELYSIUM, but STAR WARS is in a whole other galaxy (in a manner of speaking). With the plot revolving around a group or Rebel fighters stealing the Death Star plans, it is said that Luna will be joining Jones and Ahmed as a Rebel, with Mendelsohn playing the villain.

In more "current" STAR WARS news, there was some rumor that Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, would be playing Leia in a flashback scene in THE FORCE AWAKENS. Speaking with ET, Lourd confirmed she did have a role, but that it DID NOT belong to a princess.

Billie Lourd on whether or not she plays Princess Leia in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS role:

That's a lie. That's a rumor. I wish I played a young princess. I can't talk to you about the character, or the lack of character. I didn't even say that. That was too much.

Not to knock Billie Lourd or anything, but I would find it odd that they would cast her in THE FORCE AWAKENS in a role that doesn't relate to Leia Organa, unless it's just a cameo of some sort. The cast for AWAKENS looks great thus far so I have all the faith in the world J.J. Abrams knows what he's doing. Meanwhile, the ROGUE ONE front is shaping up quite nicely. I actually just re-watched Gareth Edwards' GODZILLA last night and despite my lukewarm response to the movie as a whole, it really had some great cinematography and sense of style to it. I can't wait to see that style applied to a STAR WARS heist film with these actors!

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS will hit theaters on December 18, 2015, while STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY: ROGUE ONE will open on December 16, 2016.

billie-lourdDo you think Billie Lourd resembles a young Princess Leia?
