Dimension Films sinks its teeth into original vampire thriller Garden District

Dimension Films (PIRANHA 3DD, THE ROAD, 1408) has picked up the rights to an original vampire tale from screenwriters Luke Goltz (YOU AND I) and Anthony Jaswinski (VANISHING ON 7TH STREET) called GARDEN DISTRICT that actually sounds, well, not bad at all.  “In the film, a trio of young, ambitious myth-debunkers head to New Orleans after a mysterious video of a vampire’s execution goes viral to find out if the video was real or fake. They soon find themselves up against dark forces and in over their heads.” GARDEN DISTRICT sounds like it has just enough of that irreplaceable “something different and/or unique” going on to warrant my attention – the last vampire movie I felt this way about was DAYBREAKERS, and I was not disappointed.  In fact, I’ll proudly say that I thought it was a really great flick.

“This film reminds me of the early days of Dimension” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company (which owns Dimension). “We look forward to making ‘Garden District’ as terrifying in theaters as it is on the page.”  Those early days of Dimension he’s talking about would mean such movies as FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, SCREAM, and MIMIC (see the full list here), which isn’t a bad pedigree at all to have when making further forays into the genre of action-horror.

I doubt we’ll be seeing anything like this lovely lady in GARDEN DISTRICT, but that won’t stop me from appreciating her anyway:
