Director Bryan Singer tweets new castmembers for X-Men: Days of Future Past, including the return of Collossus!

Mar. 15, 2013by:

Bryan Singer has certainly been using the Twitter machine correctly, posting regular updates on the progress of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST with fun teases, sneak peaks, and official cast confirmations.  Today, the director posted an image of the cast with their collective award credentials with a follow on note, saying, "Now, let's blow shit up!"  The picture confirms three castmembers we hadn't known about before, including the return of the metallic mutant known as Collossus, who will once again be played by Daniel Cudmore according to this line up.  The other two additions are Boo Boo Stewart and Fan Bingbing (no, I did not make up these names), who is confirmed to be playing a mutant known as Blink.

Here's the pic:

L-R: Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Erik Lensherr), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Peter Dinklage (Unknown Villain), Halle Berry (Storm), Ellen Page (Shadowcat), Shawn Ashmore (Bobby Drake), Omar Sy (unknown), Anna Paquin (Rogue), Daniel Cudmore (Colossus), Fan Bingbing (Blink), Booboo Stewart (unknown).

We're all still waiting to hear if Singer can lock down the firey couple of Cyclops, played originally by James Marsden and Jean Grey, played by Famke Janssen, which would really round this bad boy out.  The longshots it seems (and not, THE Longshot, mind you) are Taylor Kitsch as Gambit and Kelsey Grammer as present-day Beast.  Alan Cumming is all but confirmed to not be returning as Nightcrawler, so that doesn't leave many unaccounted for unless we want to really get in the weeds.

Either way, Singer is assembling an army of talent to fill out this film, which gives me the feeling that he's really going for it.  The fears of having too many mutants all at once is valid, but if you look at the comics it's always been an ensemble effort.  X-MEN: THE LAST STAND aside, I think they've done a fine job of balancing it out.  I'm optimistic.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST wages war on July 18, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Would Marsden and Janssen's lack of involvement be a dealbreaker for you?

Colossus coming back played by the same actor is great. It keeps with the continuity of the films which is a huge deal to me (I'm not a big fan of recasting, no matter how big or small the role). Colossus is also a great character so it'll be great to see him back in this film as well.

But yeah the only thing left to make this movie complete is getting Marsden and Janssen back for Cyclops and Jean Grey. Something I am surprised hasn't happened yet. Having Gambit and older Beast would be

And I wonder why some of the photos are spread out from one anther. Maybe a clue of some sort that Synger is trying to tease is with?

Hells yeah, Colossus.
Blink...I'm not as excited about. There's no way they'll transfer her powers from the comic to the movie. Unless she's integral in the alternate timeline plot...

So...are we just dropping most of the characters from First Class?

I am more excited for this movie than any other, but I find it odd that we have heard nothing on Havoc or Banshee. Not that they were so amazing or even very developed in XFC, but there absence seems odd. I am all for the return of Colossus and hope for the full return of all cast members. Pyro, specifically, is a character who was beautifully developed in X2 and shoehorned into X3. Would love to see that character return to form.

What we are missing from the cast line-up so far:
#1-Pyro, Nightcrawler (I know...), Cyclops, Jean
#2-Havoc, Banshee, Beast, Angel, Gambit (would have to be pretty old)
#3--Azazel, Mystique (Rebecca Romijn),
#4-Angel 2, Emma Frost, Sabertooth, Fabio (hurricane dude)

Having Pyro back would be great. One of my favorite mutants from the original trilogy. Stole every scene in X2.

Will Colossus actually have lines in this movie? Heck, at this point I wouldn't mind some others returning besides just Jean and Scott. Along with the post below which recommended Pyro, one of my personal favorites from X2, how about the under-used Ben Foster returning as Angel?
Also, I find it funny that the picture descriptions all use the "x-men" names, except Shawn Ashmore (Iceman).

Omar Sy

Perhaps they've re-cast Darwin after his combustion? Well happy about Colossus continuity though!

There are 6 slots in that photo that need to be filled in, here's hoping that two of those are for James (Cyclops) Marsden and Famke (Jean Grey) Janssen.

Tidbit: It wouldn't be a deal breaker but it would be strange and not make any sense if they're going out of their way to bring back so many of the other cast members.

I still have no idea what this is about and am waiting for a plot synopsis, because this combination of characters from the present day X-men films and First Class seems kind of messy.

Headline Should Have Read

"Brian Singer Hopes to Recreate Feel of X-Men 3 by Screwing Up the Exact Same Way."

Hey Singer, less focus on getting the "More than Twenty Recognizable Actors" achievement and focus on the "Make a decent movie since The Usual Suspects," achievement.

Yeah, you know cuz Apt Pupil, X2 and Valkyrie all sucked so much. And it's not like any good movies can have ensemble casts.

The 6 missing spaces...

I'm thinking....

Rebecca Romijn as older Mystique (from X-Men, X2, The Last Stand, and her cameo in First Class)
Kelsey Grammer as older Beast (from The Last Stand)
Lucas Till as Havok (from First Class)
Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee (from First Class)
I'm going to say it... I reckon there'll be a recast for Nightcrawler if Alan Cumming is passing on it. How about David Tennant?

as for the other role... hmmm... I reckon it could be a character we're don't know about..
That said I

My God. When you think about what Singer accomplished by gathering ALL these people.....

It looks like ONE GIGANTIC fucking cast to fill out 10 seasons of a live-action X-MEN series (how I wish!) and not just a 2 hour movie. Hopefully this is the start of a new X-MEN cinematic universe ala Marvel, so we'll see each of them more in the future (and those who'd be missing).

Sounds good but no Beast, huh? A great character who is a staple in X-Men mythos. And probably the only thing they got right in X3.

I really think they did a good job with Angel in X3. I didnt really like a lot of the cg in that film, but felt they did him justice at least as far as "look" goes. even though Kelsey Grammar was a good choice for Beast, I found his action scenes looked a little too phony.

I guess I meant older/present Beast. Wasn't a fan of Holt's/First Class's take on the character.

For my money they also got Shadowcat right in X3. She's not exactly the same as her comic book counterpart but I was fine with the minor liberties they took with her, just as I was fine with the minor liberties they took with Rogue and Nightcrawler in the earlier films.

Tidbit: It wouldn't be a deal breaker if the actors couldn't come back, but would be if the characters were left out, x-men films definitely need a Cyclops and not some downplayed/killed off in 5 mins half assed one.

And Cyclops is always better with a Jean beside him.

highly likely amazing. Singer has the talent to do a ensemble movie and Fox has the money for an epic X-men movie, so its a win-win

Blink is in this now? Blink was a character in Exiles about a group of mutants made up from different alternate realities that traveled to other alternate realities to fix problems that, if left alone, would eventually destroy those alternate realities and pose a threat to the existing realities.

Her ability was a teleporter, but she was able to throw teleportation bolts at people as well.

This movie is really starting to sound like a gigantic mess. Especially if the main villain is

This movie is really starting to sound like a gigantic mess. Especially if the main villain is actually who it was leaked to be earlier this week. Too many plots thrown in a blender and set on 'frappe' doesn't make for a good script...not that Singer knows what a good script looks like in the first place....

Bryan Singer is a good (not great) director, I think this movie will end up being very good. Singer is more of a "solid" director then a "spectacular" one, but I think the movie is in good hands.

What if

this is just part one of a new trilogy that uses all the above characters and more so everybody eventually gets the screen time they sign up for.

Im sure Fox have big plans for the franchise now, specially with Marvel continuing their Big cinematic universe with the Avengers.

Fox has an IMPRESSIVE cast, so Im very confident we'll see at least another sequel with full original cast

I really feel this will be a good movie. Singer is a really good director who value's story over "flash". First X-Men movie was pretty good for its time, X2 was amazing and really set the stage for a great X3 film which unfortunately got completely derailed by Singers departure, and not only was it a bad film, it completely destroyed the integrity of the franchise going forward (i.e killing off Cyclops the freakin leader of the xmen since day 1, and yes nitpickers, i'm aware Storm was at one

Even First Class, albeit a better film than both films mentioned, really got away from any kind of continuity from the films and the lore. I am very interested to see how well Singer can clean up this mess but also I believe he's one of a few directors who can make this happen.
Extra Tidbit: I wouldnt have even cared about this film if Marsden wasnt coming back as Cyclops, but he is and I'm super-CYKED about it. On the other hand I'm really tired of the whole continuos ressurection of Jean Grey. That woman has died and come back to life more times than Jesus. You dont need her for a good X-MEN film.

was that a joke or sarcasm? of are you serious?

Id love to see Thunderbird and Sunfire, and a cameo from Dazzler, as a clear nod the the 70's early comics. But all those characters on the movie would be crazy, lol

If Daniel Cudmore weren't returning as Colossus, he would have been my pick to play Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm stoked on the characters return.
