Director Chris Miller talks Jump Street/Men in Black crossover movie

02.24.2015

Jump Street Men in Black Chris Miller

Chris Miller didn't rule out merging the JUMP STREET franchise with the MEN IN BLACK universe for 23 JUMP STREET after it was leaked that Sony was considering the idea, but the question is will it actually happen? It just might be crazy enough of an idea to work, and during an interview with Coming Soon, Miller again says there could be a JUMP STREET and MEN IN BLACK crossover movie. However, Miller also says he's still trying to figure things out with Sony, stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, and 23 JUMP STREET screenwriter Rodney Rothman.

Well, it’s very, very early on in this crazy fever pitch, but it’s definitely a really interesting concept that makes you think. Talking about it, developing it with Jonah and Channing and Rodney and the studio, we can’t just do the, “Hey, it’s the same thing again” schtick because we did that already.

The next film won't be based on one of the sequel posters from 22 JUMP STREET though since Chris Miller considers them to be canon.

Those are canon, all 22 sequels. If we’re going to do something, it’s got to be different but still have that same very specific Jump Street flavor to it.

While I enjoyed the JUMP STREET movies much more than I expected to, I'm not sure how I feel about the duo jumping (pun intended) into the MEN IN BLACK world for the next film. I will say that if Chris Miller and Phil Lord weren't involved I'd have almost no hope for the project, but since they are, I am a little interested in seeing what they would do with a crossover movie.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord were behind the camera for the first two episodes of the upcoming FOX comedy The Last Man on Earth (created by and starring Will Forte), and it will premiere on March 1, 2015.

Just had an idea, what if the duos actually switched roles, like say the flashy thingy was done to J & K & it's Jenko & Schmidt who become the MIB instead, while the old MIB partners figure out what really happened to them? Imagine the banter that could happen between Ice Cube & whomever is in charge of MIB, if it's not Rip Torn!

this has to be primarliy Jump Street taking place in MiB Universe (not the other way around)

it shouldn't be a shared universe. the MiB shouldn't exist in Jump Street universe. but if the Jump Street guys are shomehow transported to MiB universe, it stands a chance. Jump Street is all about these two guys being where they don't belong. they shouldn't be cops, yet they are. they shouldn't be in highschool/college, yet they go with it. just the same, all it would take is Jonah Hill saying something self-referential like "dude, we really don't belong here. how the eff did this even

I think this could be a good idea if done right. Would they be able to get Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith to come back, because it wouldn't work without them. That last man on earth trailer was pretty funny. I originally thought it was a movie, but it seems it's a tv show. My question is how do you make a tv show about being the last man earth continually funny?

Doesn't seem necessary..

21 Jump Street was a surprisingly great comedy. 22 Jump Street was a surprisingly great sequel. The reason the sequel worked however was because it was so entirely selfaware of sequels in general and the payoff from that was great. So why bother with this? A crossover would have no relevance to the world of the other two movies and completely toss out the self referential humour (the thing that made Jump Street work)in favour of MIB publicity. Leave Jump Street where it is, find a new way to

unless... the movie starts with some inter-dimensional alien portal from MiB universe opens up and sucks in Schmidt and Jenko. the rest of the movie is them working with the MiB to stop the portal opening aliens and get back home. the running self-referential joke is Schmidt and Jenko going "uhhh... we definitely do not belong here." and "seriously, how did we end up here? how does this make any sense? eh, just go with it."

Why Jump Street?

Why not merge Men in Black with Ghostbusters? Wouldn't that make more sense?

Not really. One deals with aliens and the other ghosts. Unless the merged the companies I doubt that'll work.

I agree with the article saying if it were any other directors, I woud say no way, this is a crazy ass idea. Phil Lord & Chris Miller are however 4 for 4 in my book & as crazy as it sounds maybe they can pull it off. As brilliant & hilarious as the sequel stingers in 22 Jump Street were, they have to try something fresh & different. I have no doubt it will be great whatever they decide to with 23 Jump Street, love these films.

odd concept

and am not really excited by the idea but yeah, i thought the same about 'Lego movie' and "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs', the directing duo can do no wrong for me so far, i look forward to whatever they'll put out.

People have a tendency to doubt things before they see it - the first 22 Jump Street movie knows all about that. I would be open to the idea of a crossover - would need something clever to make it happen - alternate dimension or something...though I suppose that's not really alien related angle. There was actually a deleted scene in the second movie that referenced the MiB movie.

Still think it's a dumb idea for both franchises to crossover. At this point, I think Men in Black needs this to happen much more then 21 Jump Street needs it to happen.

First off, MIB 3 is a great film, in my humble opinion, the best of the 3. But that's just my opinion, I get that. So let's go with financial figures. MIB 3 made $654 million WW. More than both Jump Street movies combined, so I would think Jump Street would be the greater benefactor in this deal.
