Director Luc Besson says he has no plans for a Lucy sequel

08.21.2014

LUCY was a surprise hit at the box office this summer, grossing over $100 million domestically, and $170 million worldwide. Not too shabby for an original movie with a $40 million budget. Some have wondered if there will be sequel because of its impressive box office run, but while speaking to local media in Taipei recently, director Luc Besson said it's unlikely he will make a second movie.

It's not made for that. If I find something good enough, maybe I will, but for now I don't even think about it.

Besson goes on to say he believes one of the reasons LUCY did so well at the box office was because of its late summer release date.

We arrived at the end of it (summer) with something totally weird and strange. So at least it gives a little bit of freshness.

Just because a movie has a solid run at the box office doesn't mean it needs a sequel, and while I think there are a couple of ways a second film could work, I'm glad one isn't being developed. Are you cool with just one movie, or are you interested in seeing a sequel to LUCY?

NO NEED - LUC DOESN'T DO SEQUELS

Besson tells stories that take up a movie. There's really no need or desire to cheapen some the great stories he's told thru film Sure, a Natalie Portman driven sequel would be very cool but it's not Besson's style. We just need to be happy that his movies he considers art and they really don't need to be furthered. Plus, most of his stories/films end with really nowhere to go. Joan is dead. Lilu saved the world. Enjoy and let it go already.

If it wasn't for the Batcrazy last 3rd of the film of the film I might of said give us a sequel but what could of been one of the best sci fi films of the year became one of the worse films of this decade.

Lucy was one of my favorite flicks so far this year. It was bat shit crazy in the best possible way. I dont think the surprise of the 1st can be replicated so leaving Lucy as a stand alone is just fine with me.

Lucy was terrible. Just make a sequel to the Professional with Natalie Portman returning.

Thank god!

The first one was terrible. I have no idea how it even got 60% on rotten tomatoes...

outside of the ending, i dont think we need a Lucy sequel. it did what it was intended and then it was over, end of story. literally.

I'd think it be pretty hard to do a sequel, given what happened in the end of "Lucy".
