Director’s Guild nominates Tarantino, Bigelow, Cameron…

The Directors Guild of America, eerily accurate prognosticators for the Oscars (winners of the DGA award have won the Best Director Oscar the last five consecutive years, only not jibing three times since 1990) announced their five director nominations yesterday. The names given nods aren’t too surprising, but here they are nevertheless:

Kathryn Bigelow
(THE HURT LOCKER)

James Cameron
(AVATAR)

Lee Daniels
(PRECIOUS)

Jason Reitman
(UP IN THE AIR)

Quentin Tarantino
(INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS)

The nomination for Lee Daniels also represents the first time ever an African-American has been nominated for the DGA award. And Kathryn Bigelow is only the seventh woman to receive a nod since the award first began going out in 1948. Good for them, especially Daniels (even if I’d say he’s the weak link of the five).

Winners of the DGA award will be announced on January 30th.
