Directors notes: Aronofsky for Wolverine 2? Jonathan Liebesman for Clash of the Titans 2?

08.30.2010

Deadline has some rather interesting director notes on a few movies: CLASH OF THE TITANS 2, WOLVERINE 2, and DEADPOOL. I'll just cut to the chase and get right into it.

CLASH OF THE TITANS 2: I'm not sure how many of you were fans of Louis Leterrier's CLASH OF THE TITANS. The 3D from what I hear was a bit of a mess (2D for me). Then there was the anti-climatic ending. It was a major build up that ultimately gave the audience a wicked case of blue balls. Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are apparently vying for BATTLE: LOS ANGELES director Jonathan Liebesman to helm a sequel. The studio has been working around the clock to get a sequel going ever since the movie grossed $500 million worldwide. Leterrier made it clear since last April that he would not return for a sequel. UPDATE - It was announced this morning that Liebesman has officially signed on to direct CLASH OF THE TITANS 2.

WOLVERINE 2: Here's where it gets rather interesting. The story of Logan going off to Japan has collected some interest from directors. A lot of this has to do with the fact that Hugh Jackman has been courting some directors for the project. They say that ultimately the decision of the helmer comes down to Jackman. Last we heard, David Slade was the forerunner for the film. But in a rather cool twist, Jackman has also been in discussion with his former director on THE FOUNTAIN, Darren Aronofsky. Will it be Slade or Aronofsky? Only time can tell. Robert Schwentke (RED) was at one time circling the film, but decided against it.

DEADPOOL: Ryan Reynolds is still wanting to do a solo DEADPOOL film-- however he just signed on to do SAFE HOUSE with Denzel Washington which will start early next year. He's a busy guy and so is DEADPOOL directing hopeful Robert Rodriguez. The director says that he really likes the script, but there's just so much going on for him right now. Between promoting MACHETE and directing SPY KIDS 4 there's not a lot of breathing room, "We haven't really gotten into the discussion, but they are trying to make a certain small window that's going to be tough because of Spy Kids. If they push it back, it would be a lot better for me."

Extra Tidbit: Should DEADPOOL be pushed back for Rodriguez? And even bigger news, Aronofsky as a possible WOLVERINE 2 director? Imagine that crazy brilliant shit.

"Aronofsky would be stupid to try and take on Wolverine 2. Fox has fucked up the entire X-Men franchise to the point of no hope. This franchise is where Batman was after Batman & Robin.[link]

Thats probably what people thought about Nolan taking over the Batman Franchise. Look how bad that turned out.

Deadpool should get Joe Carnahan to direct it, and if Aranofsky directs Wolverine 2 that would be the only thing to get me interested in that movie.

I was pissed when I found out an Aronofsky Robocop was never going to happen. I'll settle for Wolverine, no prob.

That would be awesome if Aronofsky did Wolverine 2. That would totally renew my interest.

Honestly, more of the "traditional" directors should do superhero movies. If we want them to be interesting, then we need to get people with unique storyteller's sensibilities to direct them. I mean, I loved Iron Man as much as the next guy, but you can't do that over and over without it dooming the genre into cheese-ridden fate that fell upon 50s Sci Fi.

My question is why do they feel they need a sequel to Clash? Probably because it made huge bank at the theater. I didn't hate the film, but thought it was just ok. That's probably because I only paid a dollar to rent it at Redbox. Darren Aronofsky for wolverine 2? I'm not sure about that. I never saw Requiem For a Dream, and The Fountain was just weird. I don't know if he can do action. Rodriquez would be awesome for Deadpool though! My only question is why doesn't he just dump Spy Kids and do

I sure know I don't know any people who have been waiting around for another Spy Kids movie!

Won't happen...

But, it would be great. Aronofsky can do no wrong.

Dear Mr. Jackman,

You can make all the crap you want but can you not drag Mr. Aronofsky, one of our more original and innovative filmmakers, down into the generic comic sequelitis gutter with you?

Mr. Slade on the other hand, has already sold out once to the Twilight Saga; you might as well take him all the way.

Thanks,

Do any of those films really need to be made? Clash of the Titans was a complete market scheme to get people sucked into seeing a sequel. And I don't think I'm going to have many people that disagree when I say that Fox has done nothing but crap on Marvel scripts for the past decade.

After the massive disappointment of Clask of the Titans I don't think the studios can trick people into seeing a sequel, no matter who directs. Unless a director's cut is released and it's vastly better than the studio cut version.
I love Aronofsky, but unlike Robocop I don't feel his spin on Wolverine would really fit well with the character.
And R.Rod should do the Sin City sequels before Deadpool.

Aronofsky doing "Wolverine 2" seems intriguing but I highly doubt it will happen. Rodriguez needs to get going on "Sin City 2."

Mixed feelings

Whilst I think Darren Aronofsky is awesome, the idea of him directing a superhero movie seems a little off, but I thought the same of Branagh directing Thor and that one is shaping up nicely(so far).

I dont think Deadpool can be pushed back for Rodriguez. If they do, they'd have to push it back again for Green Lantern 2 probably.

I don't know what's the thing with jonathan liebesman, the guy hadn't make one single good movie and let's hope that Battle Los Angeles won't be another crappy alien movie like the day the earth stood still. Arnosfsky is a great director but his low pace style is incompatible with a wolverine movie I would like to watch guillermo del toro on wolverine's chair someday. And the problem of Clash of titans wasn't Leterrier.. was the horrible script and the trashy 3D. But if it comes to a new

Hmm...

If Aronofsky made Wolverine, it would probably be great, but I'm not sure the typical summer blockbuster crowd would like it. I can't imagine it being anything like the other X-Men/Wolverine films -- his tone, his style, and his approach to filmmaking is just totally opposite. Having said that, he and Nolan are two of the best directors of their generation; "The Wrestler" is one of the best films of the '00s; and I have faith that he would make Wolverine a masterpiece of sorts.

Don't really

Don't really care at all about the other two. Deadpool would probably be fun but Rodriguez hasn't made a great movie yet. He's just a good pulp genre director.

Hell No

WRONG, i got nothing against Jackman wanting to make a good Wolverine film but

FUCK THAT SHIT

Aronofsky is one of the few directors who comes up with fantastic stories to tell and should steer clear of all the bull crap that will follow a blockbuster sequel.

Clash of the Titans was a good movie for what it was, fun and exciting. Nothing more. I wouldn't mind a new director.

I am 110% on board for Aronofsky to direct Wolverin 2, even though I like Slade as well. The Fountain was a great movie(also underrated) and had a great story and was visually perfect. The Samurai story for Wolverine is going to need a good visual style/direction and he would be the man to bring this vision together.

For Deadpool, It'd be cool to see Rodriguez at the helm

For Deadpool, It'd be cool to see Rodriguez at the helm because it does fit his style, but if he can't direct it, I could easily see another director doing a good of job with the film...maybe Joe Carnahan? I hope Reynolds gets to be Deadpool sooner than later because I feel if he doesn't do this movie within now to 5 years then the movie is going to be lost.

Guaranteed, Aronfsky WILL NOT end up directing Wolverine 2.

Why can't RobRod hand off directing another fucking Spy Kids to a lackey and do Deadpool? WTF?

How tight would that be if he directed Wolverine going to Japan? What's that Lady with the hat's name? She was a bad ass villain. Aronofsky could bring a whole lot of hotness to this right herre.

I don't know... I don't see what would make Aronofsky so interested in directing a Wolverine movie. If he does, all power to to him, because that franchise could use his name and talent, ha.

A samurai style wolverine movie would be a nice alternative to the cameo clusterfuck that was the last one. Aronofsky could pull off something like that nicely in his sleep.

Clash in the first place could have been a lot better if the studio had not put its dirty paws all over it and screwed it up. Whoever ends up being the next director must be willing to tell the studio heads to go screw something else up.

Spy kids 4?! Gag me with a pitchfork. Dead pool is best left in hades for a few
