Directors notes: Aronofsky for Wolverine 2? Jonathan Liebesman for Clash of the Titans 2? | Movie News

Deadline has some rather interesting director notes on a few movies: CLASH OF THE TITANS 2, WOLVERINE 2, and DEADPOOL. I'll just cut to the chase and get right into it.
CLASH OF THE TITANS 2: I'm not sure how many of you were fans of Louis Leterrier's CLASH OF THE TITANS. The 3D from what I hear was a bit of a mess (2D for me). Then there was the anti-climatic ending. It was a major build up that ultimately gave the audience a wicked case of blue balls. Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are apparently vying for BATTLE: LOS ANGELES director Jonathan Liebesman to helm a sequel. The studio has been working around the clock to get a sequel going ever since the movie grossed $500 million worldwide. Leterrier made it clear since last April that he would not return for a sequel. UPDATE - It was announced this morning that Liebesman has officially signed on to direct CLASH OF THE TITANS 2.
WOLVERINE 2: Here's where it gets rather interesting. The story of Logan going off to Japan has collected some interest from directors. A lot of this has to do with the fact that Hugh Jackman has been courting some directors for the project. They say that ultimately the decision of the helmer comes down to Jackman. Last we heard, David Slade was the forerunner for the film. But in a rather cool twist, Jackman has also been in discussion with his former director on THE FOUNTAIN, Darren Aronofsky. Will it be Slade or Aronofsky? Only time can tell. Robert Schwentke (RED) was at one time circling the film, but decided against it.
DEADPOOL: Ryan Reynolds is still wanting to do a solo DEADPOOL film-- however he just signed on to do SAFE HOUSE with Denzel Washington which will start early next year. He's a busy guy and so is DEADPOOL directing hopeful Robert Rodriguez. The director says that he really likes the script, but there's just so much going on for him right now. Between promoting MACHETE and directing SPY KIDS 4 there's not a lot of breathing room, "We haven't really gotten into the discussion, but they are trying to make a certain small window that's going to be tough because of Spy Kids. If they push it back, it would be a lot better for me."

Extra Tidbit: Should DEADPOOL be pushed back for Rodriguez? And even bigger news, Aronofsky as a possible WOLVERINE 2 director? Imagine that crazy brilliant shit.

Thats probably what people thought about Nolan taking over the Batman Franchise. Look how bad that turned out.

Honestly, more of the "traditional" directors should do superhero movies. If we want them to be interesting, then we need to get people with unique storyteller's sensibilities to direct them. I mean, I loved Iron Man as much as the next guy, but you can't do that over and over without it...

You can make all the crap you want but can you not drag Mr. Aronofsky, one of our more original and innovative filmmakers, down into the generic comic sequelitis gutter with you?
Mr. Slade on the other hand, has already sold out once to the Twilight Saga; you might as well take him all the way.
Thanks,

I love Aronofsky, but unlike Robocop I don't feel his spin on Wolverine would really fit well with the character.

Don't really care at all about the other two. Deadpool would probably be fun but Rodriguez hasn't made a great movie yet. He's just a good pulp genre director.

FUCK THAT SHIT
Aronofsky is one of the few directors who comes up with fantastic stories to tell and should steer clear of all the bull crap that will follow a blockbuster sequel.

I am 110% on board for Aronofsky to direct Wolverin 2, even though I like Slade as well. The Fountain was a great movie(also underrated) and had a great story and was visually perfect. The Samurai story for Wolverine is going to need a good visual style/direction...

For Deadpool, It'd be cool to see Rodriguez at the helm because it does fit his style, but if he can't direct it, I could easily see another director doing a good of job with the film...maybe Joe Carnahan? I hope Reynolds gets to be Deadpool sooner than later because I feel if he doesn't do this movie within now to 5 years then the movie is going to be lost.

Why can't RobRod hand off directing another fucking Spy Kids to a lackey and do Deadpool? WTF?

Clash in the first place could have been a lot better if the studio had not put its dirty paws all over it and screwed it up. Whoever ends up being the next director must be willing to tell the studio heads...

Spy kids 4?! Gag me with a pitchfork. Dead pool is best left in hades for a few years until the stench of the first wolverine flick has blown away from it.
