Discover your ancestral house and get your name in Kryptonian with this Man of Steel Glyph creator

May. 24, 2013by: Niki Stephens

It's Friday; you ain't got no job... and you ain't got shit to do. Okay, well maybe you have both of those things but regardless you should definitely take some time to play around on this MAN OF STEEL glyph creator.

When you go to the site, the first thing you see is a shield and these words underneath:

Children of Krypton are born to a specific Ancestral House with distinct traits. Discover your Glyph, Ancestral House and name in Kryptonian then download and share your Kryptonian identity with friends.

Then from there you answer a few questions and whatever you choose will decide which ancestral house you belong to. When you select more to the right, your traits will also be there. I love that they have your name written in Kryptonian.

If you want to give it a go, click on my glyph below.

Nice touch. One thing I really like in this film is the Kryptonian alien shapes. Seems very majestic and otherworldly. It almost looks a bit Giger-ish, kind of like the organic-mechanical shapes on the distant planet in Prometheus.

Aw bullshit. I kept trying to make it give me the S symbol. I even kept giving a bunch of bullshit sappy answers like Superman would give, but it didn't work. Did anyone else get the S?

Very fun little diversion!

I don't usually partake in these movie campaigns for some reason, but oddly I took part in this one. It is really fun, especially being able to upload a photo and add your insignia into it!

Here are a couple questions I was hoping a Superman aficionado could help answer, though:

1. Is this odd Kryptonian language a legitimate language like Klingon? Or are the writings and symbols created on the fly?

2. In the trailer for Man of Steel, they say that, while his logo looks like an S

2. In the trailer for Man of Steel, they say that, while his logo looks like an S to us, in reality it means "hope" on their home world. Is that how he got the symbol in the first place? Or is that "hope" interpretation new for this movie, alone?

There's been Kryptonian in the comics before, but I'm not sure if it's a consistent language; I don't think it is.

The idea that the "S" on Superman's chest is his family crest is not a new thing, but the idea that it literally stands for hope might be. Marlon Brando as Jor-El wears the "S" crest in Superman, so the thinking is The House of El sigil just happens to look like an "S", and that's what Lois Lane decided to christen him.

They actually created a kryptonian language, for the comics, a few years ago. But it was abandoned when they rebooted DC with the New 52.
Apparently they kind of created a new one, but I doesn't seems to be the same for the movie.
