Disney's live action Cinderella will be played by Lily James

Apr. 30, 2013by:

After screen testing three actresses for the role, Disney and director Kenneth Branagh have decided on their CINDERELLA. Deadline is reporting the lucky princess will be actress Lily James.

James has a very short resume so far with her biggest roles being a small part in WRATH OF THE TITANS and a part on the PBS/ITV hit series DOWNTON ABBEY. James beat competition from Bella Heathcote, Margot Robbie, and at one point Emma Watson. So far, the only other cast member rumored for the project is Cate Blanchett who would play the wicked stepmother.

Kenneth Branagh is currently filming JACK RYAN with Kevin Costner and Chris Pine. It is expected he will begin filming CINDERELLA as soon as that film is complete. Disney is looking to update as many of their classic films to live action as possible, it seems, starting with CINDERELLA and the already filming MALEFICENT starring Angelina Jolie.

CINDERELLA will likely hit theaters sometime in 2014 or 2015.

I hope this turns out good. I don't think Kenneth Branagh will go the "Grimmifiaction" route of making the fairytale dark and depressing. Getting Anne Hathaway vibes from the thumbnail photo of James. And at any rate, Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmom sounds like a good idea.

What are you trying to newsflash to me? That Hollywood can't write any original scripts, so they have to start pillaging classic childhood tales?

@Leadhand - if you don't... remember... you said are they going to make every cartoon into a live action movie. I gave you a link showing that Cinderella was turned into a cartoon long, long after it first entered existence, so it's not really the same thing at all. That's like Disney doing a new live action Robin Hood movie and saying are they just going to make every cartoon into a live action movie.

Now you try to change what you said into it being something original and acknowledging

Now you try to change what you said into it being something original and acknowledging Cinderella as a 'classic childhood tale'. Well in that case I guess you must've been pretty upset when Disney made their cartoon version of Cinderella, and all the other versions of Cinderella... and for that matter all the millions of adaptations that have existed ever since the very creation of feature films. Come on man.
