Disney's next animated adventure, Frozen, looks to be an icy blast

Dec. 14, 2012by: Alex Maidy

Disney has had a good string of non-Pixar animated since John Lasseter took over the team. From TANGLED, WINNIE THE POOH, BOLT, and WRECK-IT RALPH can attest, Disney would not be completely lost without an annual contribution from Pixar.

The latest film from Disney Animation will be next year's FROZEN featuring the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel. FROZEN will be directed by Chris Buck (Disney's TARZAN, SURF'S UP) and Jennifer Lee. Lee will also write the screenplay, a job she most recently did for WRECK-IT RALPH.

Plot: Walt Disney Animation Studios presents “Frozen,” the coolest comedy-adventure ever to hit the big screen. When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna (voice of Kristen Bell), a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell. Encountering mystical trolls, a funny snowman named Olaf, Everest-like extremes and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

That image above is our first look at the tone and style Buck and Lee are going for. It reminds me a lot of the first production images from TANGLED. So, if FROZEN can tap into that same success, Disney may have another female role model to market a ton of toys for.

FROZEN is slated to open on November 27, 2013.

Jesus Christ. What is up with you and the Disney hate all the time? What happened to you in your childhood that made you so furious at a f*cking studio? Did Donald Duck feel you up at Disneyland or something?

With Wreck-it-Ralph, Disney surprised me to have a better film in 2012 than Pixar.
But it doesn't matter if it's Pixar, Disney, DreamWorks or Laika - if it's good, I'll appreciate it!

If Disney and Dreamworks met each other on the playground, Dreamworks would quickly realize that Disney is an annoying little bitch and punch em in the face. Then Dreamworks would spit on him. Wham bam thank you ma'am

I'm looking forward to it. Wreck-it-Ralph was my favorite animated film of the year. And I'm not sure why jjrakman is complaining about comedy in animated films. Don't the best animated adventure films (Aladdin, Incredibles, How to Train Your Dragon, etc), still have a lot of comedy to them. Let's not jump to conclusions before seeing a trailer.

I'm intrigued. But K.Bell seems like uninspired casting. She's acted half comatose in everything since Panic Room.

That's Kristen Stewart, not Kristen Bell.

Why do all their animated features need to be comedies now? When was the last time they did a great adventure animated feature?

umm...

Black Cauldron, and that was one of the biggest flops disney ever produced. I agree that a good dramatic animated film is needed for audiences every now and again, but Disney has a reputation of Animated Comedies and so far they've been doing good by it.

Look to Dreamworks for animated Dramas, they could really do with another "Prince of Egypt" caliber film
