One film that's been unbelievably under the radar is Neill Blomkamp's sci fi thriller DISTRICT 9. This thing is a major studio release (Sony), Peter Jackson produced, set for an August 14th (just about four months away) release and all the media we've had so far are cryptic viral sites. Luckily, "Entertainment Weekly's" preview edition had a small glimpse of one of the main characters in the film and the folks at Slashfilm managed to digitize that bad boy. The story centers on an extra-terrestrial race sequestered in internment-like camps who find an ally in a government agent who becomes exposed to their bio-technology. The picture shows the agent (Sharlto Copley) with his freaky alien eye. Click to see alien-sized.

Yeah, I really am surprised there hasn't been more hype over this. Without a doubt, one of the films I am most looking forward to this year.
