Do these leaked photos from Batman V Superman suggest a memorial?

Jun. 26, 2014by:

The most prominent of leaked on-set photos thus far have featured quite a large Superman statue. Now some new pictures have hit that may go hand-in-hand with that statue, featuring media outlets, rubble, and a whole mess of flowers. From the looks of it, a memorial will be in store for us in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. The only question is who the memorial is for.

Checked out the leaked photos here:

When films are this early in production, that leaves a lot of speculation to go around. Latino Review has hypothesized that perhaps elements from the Death of Superman story will make its way into BATMAN V SUPERMAN. As the title suggests, the Man of Steel meets his match in the form of the mighty Doomsday. If that all sounds like it would be a bit too much plot for BATMAN V SUPERMAN, that's because it probably is. Our own sources indicate that the memorial is for the events that happened at the end of MAN OF STEEL. The amount of wanton destruction on the citizens of Metropolis have been the source of much controversy and heated debate, but I think acknowledging those actions in BATMAN V SUPERMAN is the right way to go. The "9/11 effect", if you will, should yield some interesting results for the start of the next film, and I can imagine given what happened in MAN OF STEEL, Supes is already on Batman's bad side.

We'll know for sure when BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, hits theaters on May 6, 2016.

Possibly a memorial service to various city blocks that got destroyed in Man of Steel.

Enough already!

Ever since Batman & Robin came out, DC has stayed away from camp and the result was The Dark Knight and everyone's reaction here was generally positive. Meanwhile people complained that Superman Returns didn't have enough action. "Give Superman something to hit" someone said. It seems to me that the problem is that it was all joyless and dark. Green Lantern had the same problem: instead of saying "The ring made a mistake" Hal Jordan should have been insisting that the ring saw potential in him that no one else could see and he would prove Sinistro wrong at the end of the movie. That sort of happened except that I ultimately didn't feel as though Green Lantern was a hero so much as somebody who was just doing the ring's bidding and was being taken along for the ride.

So far, the post Batman & Robin movies have all been pretty much joyless with Heath Ledger's Joker and Anne Hathaway's Catwoman providing the only comic relief. The common thread seems to be Goyer: he has plotted most of these movies. At some point we need to have some joy put back into these movies. I sense that this isn't happening yet: the tone is too dark. I just hope that when DC finally lightens up they won't go too far and become campy again. I wish they could bring back Anne Hathaway as Catwoman because I think everything about that character was perfect and if they could tell a movie from her point of view they would have achieved precisely the right tone.

Glad to see that the film will be addressing the destruction at the end of Man of Steel and will hopefully show Superman helping rebuild the city and showing us that he's grown from killing Zod, so that everyone on this can stop bitching about it.

That actually makes it worse. Makes Superman seem like a mentally ill man child that can only learn common knowledge & morals through horrid mistakes.

It's kind of like if you were attacked by a rabid pitbull, then you picked it up and threw it into a playground full of children, and it proceeded to kill these children. Then you defend your actions by saying "Oh shit, I didn't know I shouldn't have done that because I've never fought a rabid pitbull before. I've learn my lesson though."

Even if we stop bitching about it, I'm sure Goyer's a shitty enough writer to include hours of bitchworthy stupidity to his Batman Superman Wonder Woman Cyborg Flash Aquaman Justice Gang script.

It's not David Goyer's script. The writing credit belongs to Argo's Chris Terrio.

I am actually in the category of not disliking Man of Steel because of the collateral but rather story structure. The superfluous use of flashbacks failed to actually add to the storytelling and served more as a device than a natural flow. The way they killed off Jonathan Kent was also a questionable choice.

However, I did grow weary of the destruction at the end, though not because of collateral damage

However, I did grow weary of the destruction at the end, though not because of collateral damage or Superman killing Zod. I simply was bored of the constant onslaught of action and became desensitized to it. I just wanted the battle to end, and I was literally annoyed when I saw that Zod was not on the vessel that was sent to the phantom zone, because I knew there would be more fighting.

Fortunately, story issues can be fixed with a better writer, but the action is still in the hands of director Zack Snyder (and a cinematographer who thinks fast zooms adds to the experience). No memorial is going to make the tediously long action more interesting in Man of Steel.

I hate the argument that Supes was still learning to take up the hero mantle when at the beginning of he movie, he's already saving people from a burning oil rig!

It seems like just yesterday

That we were oggling pics of people on a greenscreen platform with a shirtless Clark saving the oilrig workers. These pics remind me of that.
