Do you dig these new set pictures featuring Robocop, Abbie Cornish, and Michael Keaton?

I have no idea why the folks behind ROBOCOP haven't jumped on the chance to reassure lovers of the first movie with an impressively cool promotional shot - they've had plenty of time, we know they have the suit, and it's obvious that public opinion has been far from positive. Even if the fans end up being wrong, and the movie is somehow stupendous, there's a whole bunch of heartache and griping that could be at least somewhat alleviated by a few good pieces of promotional material that introduce us to the characters the way we're meant to see them: cool, collected, impressive, unexpected, or what have you.

The pictures showcase "scenes where Alex Murphy's cyborg suit [are] revealed to the press and public for the first time. As you can see, OmniCorp CEO Raymond Sellars (played by Michael Keaton) has arrived, along with Murphy's partner Lewis (Michael Kenneth Williams), his wife Ellen (Abbie Cornish) as well as his son."

Whatever the vision is, however the suits up top were sold on the idea of remaking Robocop (if there was any reason beyond money, as director Jose Padilha seems to think), it's safe to say it wasn't this:

Robocop on Unicorn

Extra Tidbit: I don't even think the original film is hallowed ground and yet I agree that this is just getting silly.

It's nice to see set photos, but they need to go on lockdown. Everything's been horrible and the hate is unprecedented. Please say a prayer for Jose Padilha.

Looks like a guy in a generic black suit, the same suit we see in nearly ever futuristic story that requires futuristic armor.

The original even made the skin of his face look like it was stretched over the cyborg skull. Very creepy and believable. Here he looks like he is wearing a helmet despite his helmet & visor being off. He obviously looks like a guy in costume.

These photos are better, far better in fact, than the original ones (SWAT mode, etc.), and the suit looks robotic here which is nice. But I am still loving the design.

Plastic-O-Cop

Have they already started marketing "RoboCop" toys, cause from the photos it sure looks like that.

You know, he almost looks like one of Skeletor's palace guards in Dolph Lundgren's Masters of the Universe film, or like one of the black knights in Krull.

Don't get me wrong, I love Michael K. Williams, but now Lewis is a guy? I'm already guessing the story will probably be very different, and having Keaton as the bad guy is never a bad thing. My biggest concern is whether they are going for a straight action movie, or is this going to have any of that same satirical edge to it that made me immediately fall in love with the original. Seriously, whenever you make a movie about a dystopian future it becomes almost immediately dated. But if you

But if you ignore the car models, that movie holds up pretty darn well with the pop-culture world we live in now.

The hand

I think people keep missing 2 things with regard to the human hand:
1) The director has stated that his film takes place between the gunning down and the full robocop reveal in the original. To me, this means that instead of having him as the "finished" robocop after a quick montage, we will slowly watch them make him more robot and less human as they see fit throughout the film. Maybe they reveal him like this first and then decide that the human hand is a flaw.
2) "Lose the arm" -- if the

2) "Lose the arm" -- if the above point is true, then they are probably incorporating this line/idea directly from the original. This is stage one that we are seeing. Shortly into the movie, I bet some Omnicorp exec decides they should "lose the arm".

Still not sold on the suit (like everyone else, it looks too much like an armoured suit instead of a cyborg), but I'm not gonna bash it. I was just watching The Other Guys and didn't know Michael Keaton was in it, it was a great surprise and I hope his star status returns to him stat. He could make for a really cool villain, even if the rest of the film doesn't turn out great.

I think everyone needs to chill

Look - they are clearly setting up shots here. There's no reason to assume he's shooting this scene or any of his scenes with the visor up. They probably wait to drop the visor until just before they call action to allow the actor to be as comfortable as possible between shots.

The suit actually looks better here than in the first shots. More reflective metal is seen. Kinda cool.

And Netforce - no - in the original - they replace his damaged body parts with Cybernetic parts - they don't drop his head on a robot body. They even attempted to keep his hand intact, but at the last minute chose to replace it. Looks like this time - they chose to save the hand/arm.

Unfortunately, Joel Kinnaman himself has said that this rendition of RoboCop is going to feature a whole lot more of the Alex Murphy's face - [link]

What I meant was in the original Murphy's face was put on his cyborg body's head part, not the entire Murphy's original head, hehe.

I might be missing something, but is his one human hand always gonna be out like that? I have'nt seen any pics to tell me otherwise. If Im wrong, great, If I'm right, that just adds to my list of why this movie is gonna suck.....

The main problem I have with the design is that it looks like a guy in a suit and not a cyborg.

I said it before, I'll say it again, this will be a PG suckfest.

I'm willing to give this a shot. However, what bugs me the most is Murphy's face in his Robocop form but with his visor off. Judging from these pics, I'd presume there will be at least some shots with his visor off. The trouble is Murphy's face looks too clean to be a cyborg. In the original Robocop, you can clearly see that Murphy's face was surgically put on his cyborg body with wires and grills connecting and attaching his face to his "head" part of the body. I hope in the new version

Should of kept his face covered, it adds to the mystery of the mystery of Robocop even though we know who he was before he became RC. Also just makes him look more badass even if I don't really dig the suit.
The human hand looks stupid and would pretty much be a flaw/weakspot in his design, because what if it got shot of in a gun battle etc?

Ha...

This looks so bad...All they need to do is paint the suit gold and red and it's friggin Iron Man. If this is their, unoriginal idea for the FINAL Robocop suit, then this film is DOA, sorry.

Nonono

This looks less and less interesting every week. Keaton is still the Man but this Robo looks bobo. And that human hand! As they said in the orignal "Lose the arm!"

I agree.

I think it's time for some oficial material here. I'm willing to give this a chance no doubt.
Goddamn, Abbie Cornish is gorgeous.

Keaton looks like a boss but I'll still wait for a trailer to decide if it looks good.
