Doc Ock casting rumors

This past weekend I blew off all the mothers in my life (mine, my mother-in-law and my wife) to hang out with Robin Williams and Al Pacino for an afternoon.   Yes, the INSOMNIA press junket was curiously scheduled on Mother's Day leaving me to make the tough decision.  But when Al Pacino makes a rare press appearance and I'm invited, you can't say no.  In any event, my interviews with Patch (my new nickname for Al), Robin, Hilary Swank, writer Hillary Seitz and director Chris Nolan will be up next week in preparation for the movie.  In the meanwhile, I thought I'd share this little tidbit I learned regarding Robin Williams and SPIDER-MAN 2.  A reporter asked Robin Williams about the rumors that he might star as Dr. Octopus in SPIDER-MAN 2.  Williams denied there was any truth to it and claims no one had approached him, he also said he'd be more than willing to do it should they ask.  I don't have his exact quote in front of me (I'll get that for you in a few) but it was very emphatic and along the lines of Hell, yeah!  This was the first I had heard of Robin Williams as Doc Ock but now that I think about it, I'm liking the idea...

In case you're unaware, he's an excerpt from the official Marvel bio of Dr. Octopus:

"Once he was Otto Octavius -- a brilliant and respected nuclear physicist, inventor and lecturer. Frustrated by the limitations of the human body, Octavius designed and built a set of robotic arms to assist him in his research. A freak laboratory accident exposed Octavius to intense radioactivity, grafting the mechanical appendages to his body and granting him complete telepathic control over the artificial limbs. But the mishap altered Octavius' mind, as well, transforming him from a timid researcher into a criminally insane megalomaniac. He adopted the nom du crime Dr. Octopus, and turned instead to a life of crime "
