Donald Glover says Solo will be "a lot more fun" than other Star Wars films

02.21.2018

Donald Glover, who plays the younger version of Lando Calrissian in the Ron Howard-directed SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, says that the latest Star Wars spinoff is going to be "a lot more fun" than previous entries in George Lucas' intertellar space saga.

In the film, Glover is joined by Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo, who manages to involve himself in all manner of smuggling mischief alongside Woody Harrelson as Beckett, a seasoned criminal, and Emilia Clark, who portrays the mysterious Q'ira for the action-packed adventure. And oh yes, the big fuzzball, Chewie, will be there as well.

Recently, while speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Glover shared his thoughts in regard to how he thinks Solo will fair against other chapters of the Star Wars saga:

“I think it’s just a lot more fun. All the Star Wars [movies] are really fun, but I think this movie, we know what’s going to happen, we know they’re not going to die, ya know? We know, kind of, what happens, but how we got there, I guess, is the crux of it. So we’re allowed to have a lot more fun than I think the other movies where you have to deal with a lot of the lineage in what’s going to happen. I think this movie’s, like, just a fun, summer film. I’m really excited about it. It’s really cool.”

"Fun" used to be a word that was easily associated with the Star Wars franchise. Though in recent times, many fans of the fantasy sci-fi brand have been left feeling divided as to the quality of the saga's most recent chapters. Perhaps this is because the overall tone of the Star Wars universe has become considerably darker with installments like ROGUE ONE and THE LAST JEDI focusing on the failings of characters rather than their absolute victory over the Empire?

Regardless of how you feel about the franchise at this time, a Star Wars film that stands to offer "a lot of fun" is likely to serve as a breath of fresh air for those who are craving a return of lightheartedness to the series. After all, Solo sure does feel like as good a platform as any for the characters to cut loose as they explore Han's early days as a dashing con man among the stars.
