Double poster post: The Hobbit's giant banner and an Expendables 2 give-away to Comic-Con attendees

Jul. 10, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

The same people that were going to Comic-Con yesterday are still going today. I'm still not one of them. At least I have the consolation that the marketing team behind THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY have forged one big and beautiful banner to rule them all, and there's nothing to stop me from eventually finding a copy and putting it up on my wall.

Note: these HOBBIT images were actually available yesterday but were then taken and compiled into the more manageable poster form, hence this second write-up.

I've cut the banner in half for a slightly easier viewing experience, but clicking on either part will still take you to our Movie Posters section (where you can view the full version in a somewhat larger capacity). Eagle-eyes readers (so to speak) with a good memory will catch their first glimpse of the Shapeshifter Beorn in the poster as well, so that's a plus. And speaking of fun extra things, you can click right here for the extra extra large version of this montage-riffic image.

Meanwhile, The Expendables are back for war and using this poster to showcase the wide variety of weaponry and undeniable firepower they'll be bringing to said war.

You better watch out, and you better not cry (unless it's from joy), because THE EXPENDABLES 2 is coming to town (and blowing it up) August 17th. I don't know why I thought that a Christmas reference was necessary there, except perhaps in appreciation of Jason Statham, so let's just look some more at THE HOBBIT's Evangeline Lilly.

potential SPOILER to the people still commenting about Li's absence in the promos

I haven't read anything about the plot except the synopsis, but I thought it's rather clear who is the Expendable who gets offed at the beginning of the movie. Li is the only guy absent when Sly has the big speach about avenging and during what I guess will be the climax with Arnie and Bruce. It's pretty freakin obvious

Love that Expendables poster

Still no word from the MPAA?

As far as new expendables, why not throw in Keith David, Ray Stevenson, Karl Urban maybe even, and support from the likes of William Sadler, Powers Boothe, and Bill Paxton?

And I'm sure a lot of folks would want to see the Fast and the Furious crew join up, but I don't know if there's a prayer of that happening.

So the Expendables 2 has Stallone and co properly bringing back the 80s-early 90s action flick - as well as the modern-day "blue and orange" tinted poster trend.

Tidbit

Nic Cage - in full on crazy mode. The guy did Con Air, The Rock, Face/Off, and he'd up the A-list quotient... Get him in there Sly!

Why are they deliberately omiting the guy from almost every aspect of the marketing?

@miguel_montes. Because he's the one who's going to get offed in the beginning of the movie. I thought it was rather clear in the trailer

Finally they've realised that if you make an 80's action movie throwback then you should market the movie as such..

Best poster for The Expendables (both 1& 2) that I've seen yet. The font alone takes me back to the sweet, blissfully ignorant and violent days of such classics as Commando.

Now let's hope this one will be better than it's predecessor which I felt to be quite tepid and took itself way too seriously.

Liam Neeson might make an interesting bad guy, but he's a different class than these guys. I realize he's gotten famous recently for his action roles, but he's a dramatic actor first, while most of these guys (except maybe Willis) are first and foremost action figures.
