Downey on Iron recast

Robert Downey Jr had a couple of comments about the now infamous recasting of Terrence Howard’s Jim Rhodes character from this summer’s IRON MAN. Don Cheadle replaced him, after allegedly delivering an unsatisfactory performance and for carrying too high a price-tag. Neither director Jon Favreau or Downey Jr had commented on this development until now. Downey said:

“I had nothing to do with that decision. I love Terrence very very much. That’s all I’ll say because I haven’t talked to him yet… I’ve always admired Don [Cheadle]. It’s one of those situations where I still don’t quite know what happened or why. Here’s what happens too: things happen and you wind up commenting on them before you’ve actually talked to the people and it’s in poor taste.”

I’ve been reading a lot of what’s said about this whole thing and am I really the only person who thinks this is a good move? Howard is a great actor but his Rhodes is too soft. The voice is all wrong. He needs to be bad ass and commanding, like me, or Rambo.
