DOWNLOADING NANCY

Maria Bello apparently does some pretty freaky shit in the drama DOWNLOADING NANCY and it's been generating some moderate buzz since sporadic reviews have appeared online. The first trailer was recently released and it does indeed confirm that there is some seriously freaky and seriously heavy shit going on in this flick. In the film, she stars as an unhappily married woman who meets a guy online and asks him to kill her but instead ends up in a bizarre, fetishy relationship with him. From this and a more graphic promo shown some time back, I'm not sure if it's my thing. But just as it's not surprising Maria Bello is starring in a freaky, fetishy, sado-masochistic thriller, it's equally unsurprising she inherited the role from Holly Hunter.



In fact, that might even give me more of an idea what I'd be in for.

Woof. I adore Maria Bello, and I think in the right role (DARK CITY, in other words), Rufus Sewell can be magnetic, but I've heard that this movie is EXTREMELY disturbing - as in people who saw it at its debut in film festivals last year were getting nauseous, running out of the theater, fainting, etc. THAT kind of intimidates me.

Saw this film at the Melbourne International Film Festival in July(ish) last year. Strong performances all-round, and a pretty engaging flick, but untimately wasn't brilliant, and felt almost...pointless?
