Dr. Strange Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently had a little pow wow with MTV and among the many things discussed, Feige mentioned that a post-AVENGERS line-up of Marvel film adaptations is most likely to include a DR. STRANGE film. Says Feige, "I’d say in the next year, year and a half, as we start putting together our film slate for 2012 and 2013, I would not be shocked if we saw Dr. Strange on those lists. I love the idea of taping into the magical realm of the Marvel Universe, which is fairly significant and hasn’t yet seen life on screen. It’s something I’m very, very interested in." Dr. Strange, of course, is a surgeon who was in a car accident that left him disabled. Unable to perform surgery, he seeks the help of the Ancient One and ends up becoming a powerful sorcerer and a wearer of funky ass costumes. Read the rest of what Feige had to say about Strange over HERE.

I think Billy Dee Williams is a bit too old for the role now. But maybe he'll do it when he stops slinging the Colt 45.

Of course I'd love to see Del Toro direct, but I just really don't see that happening at this point. He was attached to the project, but never signed, and that was before he booked himself for the next decade and a half. He's contractually obligated to do his four films for Universal, so with Feige's timeline it just wouldn't be possible.

I've tried to think of who I'd want to direct if Del Toro can't and I've finally come up with an answer I like:

Terry Gilliam.

His recent films haven't been his best (although Brothers Grimm is underrated), but if Parnasus is as good as it looks then I think this would make for an awesome followup.

As far as actors go I agree that a 1970's Christopher Lee would've been perfect. As for the current crop I was originally going to suggest Viggo Mortensen and while he'd be good, I'm convinced Jim Caviezel is the man for the job. Watch the Count of Monte Cristo and try telling me he couldn't pull of the look. Plus I think he's he right combination of recognizable name yet affordable price.

Oh thank god, it's just a comic book movie.

When I read the headline, I was worried someone was considering doing a remake of Dr. Strangelove.

I've been waiting for this...please just don't make it corny.

A good set up would be The Oath series by Brian K. Vaughn.

Guy Pierce would kick ass in this role i think. He is way underrated (or if not underrated, not cast enough). a Doctor Strange movie would likely kick ass.

I 4th or 10th that
Why does Johnny Depp have to be in every movie mentioned? You want to burn the guy out? There are plenty of other guys to fill that role (Personally, I would have loved to see a younger Christopher Lee in that-see Devil Rides Out to get my meaning)

Smits would be good, I concur, I would also put Guy Pierce on the table-see how well of prescence he has...

I think Josh Bolin has the look to pull off Dr. Strange, but I can see them go with someone younger.

As I recall, we've been hearing news for a while that Guillermo Del Toro not only wants to direct this but that he's already brought on acclaimed writer Neil Gaiman to do the script. I'm a so-so Del Toro fan, but if Gaiman writes then i'm in.

Dear God,

Please smite anyone who suggests Johnny Depp play the main character every time a new movie is mentioned on Joblo.

Edgar Wright was supposed to be directing Ant-Man. But maybe they'll drop that character from the Avengers and have him direct Dr. Strange.

Awesome. Generally I've gotten pretty sick of comic book movies and any news related to the topic, but Dr. Strange in movie form is an exception. I've wanted to see a Dr. Strange movie for as long as I can remember. They just better do it right. If done right, this would be beautiful.

This is of course wonderful news (or at least a prelude to wonderful news). However the question is, since Del Toro already has his projects lined up for the next decade and a half, who should direct?

Nice. Doctor Strange would make a fantastic film, done properly.... although I may lose geek cred for saying that I actually have a soft spot for the Doctor Strange TV movie from the late seventies....
