DreamWorks Animation and Guillermo del Toro turning Rodrigo Blass' short Alma into a feature film

Pixar animator Rodrigo Blaas (UP, FINDING NEMO) last year created a really lovely animated short entitled ALMA (which you can watch in its entirety below). That short made quite the impression on DreamWorks and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, as they will now collaborate to bring ALMA to feature-length life on the big screen.

According to THR's Heat Vision, Blaas will write and direct the animated feature for DreamWorks Animation, with Del Toro on board as an executive producer. The film would be among the first in which Del Toro, as part of his recent deal with DreamWorks, would serve as a consultant. And just how close is Blaas with Del Toro you might be wondering? Apparently, the animator will be co-directing with Del Toro on the filmmaker's first animated feature, TROLLHUNTERS.

The short film ALMA follows "a young girl who gets lured into an enchanted toy store, drawn in by its beautiful collection of dolls, including one that looks just like her."

Extra Tidbit: ALMA won the Best Animation award at the LA Shorts Fest as well as Best Andalusian Short at Animacor, Spain's international animation festival.
