Dreamworks Animation hires the supervillain janitors of the comic Maintenance

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Dreamworks Animation seems to have a thing for supervillains, whether they’re from outer space (MONSTERS vs. ALIENS) or MetroCity (MEGAMIND). Now they seem to be working their way down past henchmen, all the way to the cleanup crew.

DWA has grabbed the rights to the Oni Press comic series MAINTENANCE, which follows a pair of janitors at a company that provides equipment for supervillains.

The property was previously set up at Warner Bros. as a MEN IN BLACK-style live-action FX-filled sci-fi/comedy, with director McG developing it. But there’s no talent currently attached to the Dreamworks incarnation.

Here’s Oni’s own description of the book:

You think your job is bad? Doug and Manny have you beat! These guys are janitors! But they’re not your typical custodial crew–no, sir! They’re the guys who keep things shiny and clean at TerroMax, Inc., the world’s biggest and best evil science think tank! When they’re not dealing with toxic spill monsters and talking mansharks, they still have to worry about mad scientists, crazy would-be dictators, and the cute girl who works at reception!
