Drew directs Page

Drew Barrymore UPDATE – Variety confirms this morning that Page has signed on to star. Filming is expected to begin this summer with Page likely taking another role in between now and then.

Drew Barrymore and her “Flower Films” production company recently snatched up the rights to Shauna Cross’ coming-of-age pseudo-autobiographical tale “Derby Girl” and so enamored was she with the story of a young girl’s awakening through roller derby, she’s decided to make this her feature directorial debut. Cross mentioned Barrymore’s desire to direct in a recent interview with “Film School Rejects” and also dropped a hint that someone whose name rhymes with “Shmellen Shmage” may be looking to star. Hmm, who could that possibly be? Ellen Page, perhaps? Way to not let the cat out of the bag there, Cross. The film, now titled WHIP IT, may likely be affected by the ongoing writer’s strike.
