Ducktales - a-whoo-oo - releases teaser for upcoming reboot series

12.09.2016

So apparently DUCK TALES is getting a reboot series from Disney XD. A popular children's show in the late '80s-early '90s, DUCK TALES centered on Scrooge McDuck - a rich, stingy duck - who went on adventures with his three identical (save for shirt and hat color) nephews. It also has been said that the tales of Scrooge McDuck (in the comics that inspired the cartoon) greatly influenced George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, most notably the famous "escaping the giant boulder" scene from RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARC.

Here's what Marc Buhaj, Senior Vice President, Programming, and General Manager for Disney XD, had to say about the reboot:

DuckTales has a special place in Disney’s TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks’ comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults. Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.

And here's the teaser trailer:

Huh. No footage. Even teasers of teaser trailers usually have footage. I guess we know Scrooge McDuck will still be rich at least. We can all rest easy now.

You know, not going to lie, with the political climate being what it is, I'm not sure I want to root for an uber-rich and stingy asshole who swindles third world countries of their treasures. But maybe that's just me. The comments section on this one should be fun.

At least the theme song is still catchy.

But who cares what the f*ck I think, any actual fans of DUCK TALES out there? If so, what are your thoughts on a reboot? Sound off below!

DUCK TALES will premiere on Disney XD sometime next year in 2017

Extra Tidbit: The DUCK TALES comic is said to have had a story eerily similar to INCEPTION, to the point that some people think Christopher Nolan - like Spielberg and Lucas - took direct inspiration from it.

People tend to forget who things like this are made for

"with the political climate being what it is, I'm not sure I want to root for an uber-rich and stingy asshole who swindles third world countries of their treasures. But maybe that's just me." Herein lies the problem. As with so many adults today, they forget things like the new Ninja Turtle movies, the new Transformer movies, this Ducktales cartoon, and things of the sort...they are basically meant for children and not really geared towards adults in their late 30's-40's. Just like the cartoons

Just like the cartoons of our youth weren't meant for our adults, even if they would throw in sly references or jokes at times. The people making this Ducktales reboot probably aren't working on the premise of "damn, I hope the storyline for this episode doesn't sound like something Trump might do", they are probably working on the premise of "will kids like this?".

No they don't. The teaser for Spider-man, X-Men 2 and Terminator 3 all had just a logo as a teaser.

"his three identical (save for shirt and hat color) nephews."

They had names too though; Huey, Duey, and Louie.

Well, posting some red-hot flamebait is one way to stoke the fires of a comment section!
The folks behind this show are really talented; I wasn't super excited by the idea of yet another retro reboot until I found out that Dana Terrace from "Gravity Falls" is a director on it. She's awesome.

Well the fact that Dana Terrace from "Gravity Falls" is on it gives me some hope. Maybe she'll better address those issues. We'll see.

And is it flame-bait if that's your honest-to-God opinion (and has been mentioned on other articles, not just mine, but part of JoBolo's modus operandi is *editorializing* fan news)? Contrary to popular belief, I do like enjoying things.

I'm just being snarky, really -- I've noticed that on pretty much any entertainment site right now, most articles somehow work in a reference to the PEOTUS, and the comments section explodes with politics. I don't actually think you're trying to bait people :)

Dana Terrace is an old-school Disney fan who loves the Carl Barks comics and the adventurous spirit of the cartoon -- and Webby -- so I don't think it'll be too crotchety.

First Young Justice is getting a comeback and now Duck Tales? 2017 is going to be a great year for animated TV.

Not sure how much the "political climate" will affect the show. I don't remember the show really celebrating Scrooge McDuck for being a rich asshole. I seem to remember each story more-or-less prompted Scrooge McDuck to overcome being an asshole and be a genuinely good guy. That kind of storytelling seems to counter the current political climate where everyone keeps getting the

That's a fair point. I still think the show/comics (at least what I've seen) celebrate the flaunting of his wealth too much, and there are definitely some times where he definitely exploited people for laughs.

But I must admit I didn't watch it regularly.

Pumped!

Well I certainly hope nobody else's enjoyment will be distilled over the current "political climate." The revival of a beloved cartoon series (not to mention a kickass movie) from our youths shouldn't be overanalyzed, it should just be enjoyed.

"[Things] from our youths shouldn't be overanalyzed, it should just be enjoyed."

That's, not going to lie, a very scary sentiment to me. Because there's a lot of problematic shit we liked as kids that should've been MORE analyzed - not less, imo.

Not trying to be combative btw, I get what you're saying. I just don't agree with it.

When talking about things like Ren and Stimpy, or the adult themes in Rocko's Modern Life I agree, it's amazing what we got away with watching. However, without those things to grow up with, I wouldn't be the person I am today. And also, what's the alternative? Turn Ducktales into the next Teen Titans Go? No thank you.
