Duncan Jones hopes sci-fi thriller Mute will be his next film after Warcraft

Director Duncan Jones has been trying to get his BLADE RUNNER-esque sci-fi thriller MUTE made for a long time, and at one point was considering turning it into a graphic novel. But in a recent tweet, Jones said he wants to take another crack at MUTE after completing work on his upcoming WARCRAFT.

Duncan Jones is of course referring to Terry Gilliam's forever-in-development THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE, which last we knew still might get made, but at this point who knows what is going to happen with Gilliam's passion project.

MUTE would follow a silent bartender in Berlin who ends up fighting with the city's gangsters while searching for his kidnapped girlfriend. It's also been said it would be set in the same universe as Duncan Jones' MOON. The problem is financiers think the project is a risk since the lead character won't say a single word in the film, and only communicates by writing things down.

I remember first hearing about MUTE and thinking it was a cool idea for a film. Even if Duncan Jones isn't able to make MUTE directly after WARCRAFT I hope he doesn't give up on the interesting sounding project.

Duncan Jones' WARCRAFT starring Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper and Toby Kebbell will be in theaters on March 11, 2016.

not the silence, but the reading.

you dont need lines. all is lost, wall-e, drive.
i bet it's the fact that reading the character's notes is critical to the story.
and 32 million adults in the US can't read.

Mute would work well with the right actor in the role, look at the Buffy episode Hush silence can work... plus Duncan Jones has done amazing work so far and I look forward to seeing what more he creates

This guy is talented as hell. Will see anything the man does.

Really looking forward to his Warcraft film and especially with that cast he was able to sign up.

Duncan Jones is an exciting talent....

But I can see why Mute might make financiers scared, I mean there was that Eddie Murphy Movie where he lost his voice. It flopped.

But Duncan Jones is a talented director, I'm looking forward to seeing his movies

MUTE sounds like a great idea

I hope it gets made. I think Duncan Jones should put it out as a graphic novel, get some legs behind it and then, when the studios realize it's a profitable idea, turn it into a movie.
