The Latest Announcements

300 (SE) - July 31

Looks like Warner Home Video is handling the 300 release the right way with a two disc special edition right out of the gate. There'll also be a standard, bare bones edition but who wants that when you have the extra goodness included with the special edition. Both editions will be available in separate Anamorphic Widescreen and Full Screen formats.

Disc 1: Main Feature

  • English, French and Spanish DD5.1 Surround
  • English, French and Spanish subtitles
  • Audio Commentary with director Zack Snyder, writer Kurt Johnstad and director of photography Larry Fong

Disc 2: Extra Features (Special Edition only)

  • Deleted Scenes with Introduction by Zack Snyder
  • 300 Spartans - Fact or Fiction? (24:31mins) - Historians, authors and filmmakers reveal how much of the film was based on fact.
  • Who Were The Spartans: The Warriors of 300 (4:24mins) - Touches on the customs and ways of life of the Spartan that werent explicitly shown in 300 but were used by the actors and filmmakers to help build their characters.
  • Frank Miller Tapes (13:00mins) - We'll show how the outspoken Miller continued to push his limits to realize his epic graphic novel in the world of film
  • Webisodes: Behind the scenes peeks on the set of 300 (20:00mins)
  • Photo gallery (3:39mins) - Rapid fire stills from the first day of production to the last.

Widescreen Edition

Special Edition

Zodiac - July 24

It's difficult for me to see Jake Gyllenhaal in a flick and not wonder what would've been had he been cast as SPIDER-MAN. For one, we wouldn't have Tobey Maguire and his weird upper lip that never moves, trying to convince me he's doing good. Anyway, no details have been released for ZODIAC but stay tuned. Until then, read Tim Goernert's review of the flick here.

Heroes (S1) - August 28

HEROES, the best new show on network TV. Or so I've been told. I just may be able to catch this one early in the game before it completely passes me by. LOST stinks. That is all.

Includes:

  • Unaired Pilot: The Tim Kring Cut with Audio Commentary A full 73 uninterrupted minutes of the original, unaired, extended pilot episode, as Heroes creator Tim Kring first envisioned it, with a character never seen.
  • The Making of Heroes From concept to pop culture phenomenon, a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest new series on television
  • Special Effects The secrets behind the eye-popping visuals that give the Heroes their amazing powers.
  • The Stunts A back stage look at the shows hair-raising stunts.
  • Mind Reader Matt Parkmans mind reading abilities reveal your inner Hero with a series of simple tests.
  • Profile of Artist Tim Sale - A look at the Eisner Award-winning comic book artist (Spiderman, Batman, Daredevil) behind much of the Manga-influenced artwork used in the show.
  • The Score - Go behind the scenes with Wendy Melvin and Lisa Coleman (of Princes The Revolution) as they create their ASCAP Award-winning musical score.
  • 50 Deleted and Extended Scenes

The Hills Have Eyes 2 (Unrated) - July 17

I don't even remember this being released in the theater. The first one had some really creepy scenes in it, but the second? Anyone see this? Strike back below.

Includes:

  • Alternate Ending
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Exploring the Hills: The Making of The Hills Have Eyes 2 Featurette
  • Fox Movie Channel Presents: Life After Film School with Wes Craven Featurette
  • Mutant Attacks Featurette
  • Birth of a Graphic Novel Featurette
  • Gag Reel
  • Trailers

Two Greats

I cannot wait for the 2-Disc 300 or Fincher's awesome, Zodiac. My problem is with the DVD marketing depts. of studios that feel they have to add "pasted faces" of the actors in the movie(Zodiac). It just looks cheap and thrown on, which it is.

Sweet! I will definitely be taking HEROES home with me. That's a kickass show. I'll probably get Zodiac too, but I doubt I'll get 300..I liked it and all, but not enough to buy it. As for HH2....pffffft. :P

I uber excited for Zodiac, 300 and Heroes. All will be added to my collection when they are released. Couldnt care less about THHE2 though. I loved the original remake, but like blk_flower said, just 3 seconds. On a last note, why does Lost stink?

Digging the covers for 300 but I may hold out until they release an super duper uncut extended version that comes with a mini spartan helmet that looks authentic and you can fit on your cat's head!

Big thumbs down to THHE2 for the obvious photoshop job on the orginal poster for the unrated edition.

At least the dvd will be good for throwing aorund with the dog or dog acting cat. :D

300 Extended

Anyone think they're gonna release an extended cut of the film eventually? I do.

zodiac...

i much prefer the ominous theatrical poster to the cheesy "HEY, LOOKIT ALL THEM STARS!!" dvd cover. this movie and hot fuzz are hands-down my two favorite films from 2007 thus far. they better pack this bastard to the gills with the special features, research documentary, deleted scenes, etc. that fincher and graysmith were gushing about when they were making the press rounds... lord knows that double-dips suck.

Yea, I'll add to the hate files of HHE2. It was so fucking bad that I left and got my money back in the first 15 minutes or so, no joke. That's not the first and probably won't be the last movie I've done that to but it was fucking terrible. End of story.

all the covers look nice, and the hills cover is halarious so I have no problem with it. With the first remake the very last 3 seconds destroyed the movie for me, I would have actually enjoyed it had it not been for those last 3 seconds. God just 3 seconds.

The second Hills Have Eyes movie is probably one of the worst sequels in my recent memory. Don't make the same mistake I did and pay to see it, I felt robbed.

Hills Have Eyes 2

I actually really enjoyed the first Hills Have Eyes remake not because it was a good movie but because I couldn't believe at some of the things I was seeing. Well my friend is a sucker for horrible movies and we saw the sequel. It was *ucking horrible. Different director and new stars. I honestly cannot believe it actually made it into theaters.

Thank The Gods

At least they are releasing a special edition right off the bat and not dicking around with us like they did with the "Sin City" bare bones edition only.
