Dwayne Johnson attached to star in the survival drama Not Without Hope

Dwayne Johnson has had a hell of a year. For fifteen straight weeks he had at least one movie in the top ten at the box office in the U.S., and all together they have grossed $937 million worldwide. Not all of his films have been huge hits, but it's still very impressive. Dwayne Johnson stars in next year's FAST AND FURIOUS 7 and HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS, however this new project might be the most important one yet for the actor.

Variety is reporting that Dwayne Johnson is in talks for the film NOT WITHOUT HOPE, which will be an adaptation of the memoir by Nick Shuyler. Who's Nick Shulyer, you ask? In 2009, Shulyer and three friends (NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith, and former University of South Florida football player Will Bleakley) went on a fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico. Their boat capsized, and the men were stranded at sea for days. Johnson will be playing Nick Shuyler, who is also a former football player.

In my opinion, this film is perfect for Dwayne Johnson. The actor played football for the University of Miami when he was younger, and he's still jacked, so he definitely looks the part, but NOT WITHOUT HOPE will also give Johnson a chance to show off his range as an actor. I love Johnson in movies where he's kicking the shit out of people, however I do think he has some real talents as an actor, and I think this is a great opportunity for Johnson to prove he's not just a former wrestler who only stars in action movies.

No word on when we might see NOT WITHOUT HOPE in theaters, but chances are it will be released in late 2014, or sometime in 2015.
