Dwayne Johnson reveals his gladiator-like helmet for Hercules: The Thracian Wars

Jul. 9, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Dwayne Johnson is keeping the Twitter machine alive and today he pumped more life into it with a reveal of his helmet for the upcoming HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS. Styled from the ancient Greek warrior helmets, the gold-covered helmet is emblazoned with the head of a lion, which is representative of its comic roots, but also shows the difference in translation, as Hercules wears an actual lion's head in the comic adaptation the film is based on. Looking pretty cool otherwise.

Take a gander:

Become the man you were born to be.. ~ Hercules (Dwayne Johnson, via Twitter)

I really don't know what to make of HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS. Will it be an R-rated, bloody affair? Doubtful. Will it be an entertaining, mild romp? Likely. Could it surprise us all and be something in-between? Hopefully. With Brett Ratner at the helm I can't say I'm over the moon, but he has risen to the challenge on occasion (RED DRAGON, THE FAMILY MAN), so there's certainly the possibility this could be cool, especially with a cast that includes Johnson, Rufus Sewell, Ian McShane, John Hurt, Joseph Fiennes, Aksel Hennie, Tobias Santelmann, Irina Shayk, and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal.

HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS hits theaters on July 25, 2014.

Irina Shayk certainly does not hurt the film in the least...

Extra Tidbit: Do you think you'd feel differently about this with a different director or are you sold on Johnson's name alone?

People will shit on this movie because of Brett Ratner and partially The Rock; however, Ratner's not the worst director out there and The Rock is an entertaining performer. Good or bad film the one thing you can say about this movie is that it will not be boring.

Correct, Rat's not the worst. But his work sucks enough to be shit upon.

The Rock is awesome, but his resume deserves to be shit upon as well.

That's not a Gladiator-like helmet. That's a Spartan-like helmet. For the record, the helmets in 300 are deliberately inaccurate for the sake of not looking like penises, when in reality, that's precisely what the real ones were meant to look like.

Need to see footage

Until i see actual footage i can`t really comment either way . I do know i`m not a huge fan of the realism angle the greek mythology is one of the best things about the story of Hercules . Least i`ll always have the animated Disney classic

Dilemma.

As a long-time fan of The Rock, I'd gladly pay to watch any of his (newer) films. Let's face it, some of the stuff in between really sucked. As a person who wants to see Brett Ratner fall down a very long flight of stairs, I'd hate to pay for this. So torn, so confused. Time to see if I can score free tix somehow.

I didn't know this was having a crossover with that 300 prequel.

I would feel vastly different about this film with another director attached. I'm never going to pay money to watch anything Brett Fucking Ratner has directed. Never. As a film fan I just can't.

OK now we have a movie with the more overrated actor in America with the most hated and (a little) underrated director in Hollywood. So anything could happen!

People are going to shit on the Rat because he makes perfectly fine, entertaining popcorn movies. Let them. I still say X3 had more action in it than X1, X2, and Superman Returns combined, but that's not saying much since Singer doesn't know how to direct an action movie.

You would have to be lobotomized to look at X3 and see anything but a turd. If non-stop action is all you're looking for then just play video games.

I'm not looking for 'non-stop action', Mr. Troll. I'm looking for some actual action scenes in my comic book-inspired movies. Considering that Singer has directed 3 comic book movies, and out of those three movies there are exactly two action scenes. I don't know about you, but I go to comic book movies to have fun, not be bored by a deadbeat dad that likes to stalk his ex using x-ray vision. Or be beaten senselessly over the head by gay allegories (which is in EVERY Bryan Singer movie (yes,

Also, X3 was Singer's baby. Ratner only walked into with less than two months to prep before shooting. So if you don't like the story, you can thank Singer for that one. Was X3 a good movie? No, but neither was X1 or X2. In fact, all three were the same level of mediocrity. But at least Ratner tried, which is better than you can probably say about your life, Mr. Troll.

"When Bryan Singer was going to direct, he and his writers Dan Harris-Michael Dougherty wrote a treatment solely based on the "X-Men" storyline 'The Dark Phoenix Saga': the deceased Jean Gray returns, with a new, more destructive personality called the Phoenix. She would be manipulated into joining the Hellfire Club, by their telepathic leader Emma Frost (Sigourney Weaver was intended for the role). At the end, to save everyone Jean kills herself, but her spirit lives on and transcends into a divine being, which Dougherty compared to the star child in 2001: A Space Odyssey. "

That sounds a lot like what Ratner ended up filming? Maybe there was some transition with Vaughn but as his work on XM:FC was an attempt to reboot the franchise I seriously doubt it. Ratner is a hack. But, hey, at least he keeps throwing shit at the screen the whole movie, right? And it isn't too gay?

DaForce, The Last Stand was by far the weakest X-Men film to date. My biggest problem with the film was killing off Cyclops, Jean Grey, AND Professor X. How is that a good idea?
