Dwayne Johnson signs on to the adaptation of upcoming graphic novel Ciudad

Dwayne Johnson in black and whiteAfter the small series of “what the f*ck” career choices that Dwayne Johnson made over the mid-to-late part of the last decade, it looks like things have finally settled on a solid track for The Rock. FASTER, FAST FIVE, G.I. JOE: RETALIATION, PAIN AND GAIN, and now CIUDAD, an action-thriller adaptation of the upcoming Oni Press graphic novel of the same name.

“Set in one of the most dangerous and corrupt cities in the world, the thriller will star Johnson as a black market mercenary hired by a Brazilian drug lord to rescue his kidnapped daughter.”

The thing is, CIUDAD will actually be adapted and directed by the two filmmakers who co-wrote it.  Named Joe and Anthony Russo, this leads us to the not so interesting part which is that their last proper movie was YOU, ME AND DUPREE.  Yes they’ve produced and directed both “Arrested Development” and “Community,” but this very initial bit of news leaves me rather unsure.  I’m very happy to be proven wrong though!  Exploring genre has always been a driving motivation for us as filmmakers,” said the Russo brothers in a statement. “This movie is the culmination of a long time ambition to bring our sensibilities to an action thriller.”

I’m hoping this might be more than just action and allow Johnson to flex his acting abilities as well as his muscles.  Something more like TAKEN meets MAN ON FIRE
