Dwayne Johnson teases his hair in this photo from the Hercules set

06.11.2013by:

Dwayne Johnson is playing the title role in the upcoming flick HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS. I am all for this. However, Brett Ratner.

We've shared all of our feelings about Ratner, and I'm sure you guys have plenty of other colorful ways to show your affection for the director but let's move on for now. Johnson tweeted a photo of himself from the make-up chair on the set of the film. The actor shared the time it takes to transform into Hercules. The photo was a bit of a tease since all we see is Johnson's back and beautiful locks. If you are interested in set updates from Johnson, follow him on Twitter.

Synopsis: Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules' help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail... he must again become the hero he once was... he must embrace his own myth... he must be Hercules.

HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS will hit theaters July 25, 2014.

Hercules: The Thraciain Wars might turn-out. The director does not inspire confidence, but the lead star does. However, I would like to see Johnson play Hercules in The Avengers 2 instead. That'd be cool.
Otherwise, Hollywood could produce royally cheezy Hercules movies like they used to. The character has a tradition that way. For example, we fans could get Hercules vs. Jason or Hercules vs. Jaws in those franchises' next chapters. Hercules vs. zombies would breath new life into the overdone

Of course, Hercules vs. Bigfoot would work. Or, Animal Planet and The Cabin in the Woods have made merpeople popular. Hercules could do a Clash of the Titans III, naturally. Hey, we have Hansel and Gretel as witch hunters and Abe Lincoln as a vampire hunter. So, what constitutes a bastardization of source material these days?

Brett Ratner did direct Red Dragon which was a very good film. I'm not saying he's one of the best directors out there, but I have enjoyed one or two of his films.

Thank you, never understood all the hate for Ratner. There are far worse directors out there.

Ratner's Red Dragon had the subtlety of an hurricane... Doing such a bland film with THIS cast and THIS book is enough to justify all the bad things told about him... If you want a good screen version of Red Dragon, go watch Manhunter, instead...

"Ratner's Red Dragon had the subtlety of an hurricane..."

I didn't realize that Thomas Harris' novels about outlandish serial killers had even a modicum of subtlety to preserve.

I was mostly talking how the characters, their relationships and the story were handled...
The comparison between the two films speaks for itself...
Still, that's just my opinion, of course.
