Dwayne Johnson to star in adaptation of monster-disaster video game Rampage

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Dwayne Johnson has battled monsters and he has battled massive devastation and now he will battle both simultaneously! The man known as "Franchise Viagra" will re-team with his SAN ANDREAS producer and New Line Cinema to produce a big screen adaptation of the classic arcade game Rampage.

Scripted by NON-STOP writer Ryan Engle, the Rampage film is on the hunt for a director as they aim for production to start in 2016 as soon as Johnson completes work on FAST AND FURIOUS 8. The film will see Johnson team with producer Beau Flynn for the fourth time (JOURNEY 2, HERCULES, and SAN ANDREAS). The plot for RAMPAGE has not been revealed, but the long running video game franchise has always focused on playable monsters (usually a gorilla, dinosaur, and wolf) as they destroy as much as possible. There is not much in the way of narrative, but simply combining the concept of GODZILLA with SAN ANDREAS is enough to make studio executives see dollar signs.

Dwayne Johnson is on a roll as he continues to fill his resume with franchise after franchise. From the FAST AND FURIOUS series to G.I. JOE and onward to SHAZAM in the future, there doesn't seem to be anything Johnson isn't perfectly cast for. RAMPAGE sounds like it could be as much fun as SAN ANDREAS if not more. With SAN ANDREAS crossing $400 million in worldwide box office, I would expect the studio to fast-track this project. Now, who should direct it?
