Fast & Furious 8 Dwayne Johnson

During a press conference for his new movie SAN ANDREAS, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that his Luke Hobbs character will be back for the eighth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise. Big surprise, right? Well, Johnson also says there's still talk of doing a spinoff, and the actor revealed that he just recently had a conversation with Universal about a Hobbs movie.

Here's the full quote from Johnson about the possible spinoff:

We all are interested in it. I just had a big conversation with the studio. So we’ll see. I still think for me personally we’ve created a little bit of space for him in 7 and the gauge is set for what the audience will want. That’s my take on it, you know, but a lot of other people have to have input.

One of the complaints a few people had about FURIOUS 7 was that it didn't have enough of Johnson's Hobbs, and I know some would love to see a spinoff film featuring his character. Are you down for a Luke Hobbs-centric spinoff?

SAN ANDREAS will be in theaters on May 29, 2015, and FURIOUS 8 (not the official title, by the way) is scheduled to be released on April 14, 2017.

I'm just going to throw this out there. And I mean no disrespect to Paul Walker's memory or his involvement in this franchise so far. But instead of making a Hobbs spinoff movie, why not use the Luke Hobbs character as the replacement to Brian O'Connor? It's kind of a logical place to take the movie rather than casting a fresh role and finding a reason to shoe-horn him into the O'Connor spot of the movie.

I don't necessarily agree that there should be an 8th fast and the furious film, but if Hobbs is back, I'll be there. As for the spin off, I'm down for it as long as they pay attention to the story and not just rely on Johnson alone to bring in the dollars.

Johnson's Agent Hobbs is a great character but his spin off depends on who he'll be chasing. Case in point: U.S. Marshals starring Tommy Lee Jones' character from The Fugitive. Personally I prefer The Fugitive and don't like U.S. Marshals that much regardless of Tommy Lee Jones' character.
