Eckhart's new Hole

04.02.2009

Although he already had achieved a degree of acclaim before, Aaron Eckhart earned a lifetime worth of goodwill through his association with the idolized THE DARK KNIGHT. Will fans follow both faces to a straight-up potentially depressing drama?

Eckhart has joined RABBIT HOLE, starring opposite Nicole Kidman in the Fox Searchlight project. Based on a stage play by David Lindsay-Abaire, the story is about "a happily married couple that is disrupted by an unexpected tragedy and the emotional journey they must undertake to regain happiness. Eckhart will play Kidman's husband, who is trying to hold on to the memory of his dead son while dealing with the emotional coldness of his wife."

The movie will be directed by John Cameron Mitchell, who last made the voyeurism film SHORTBUS but is probably best known for writing, directing and starring in HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH.

On a more action-related note, Eckhart will also be providing his heroic jaw to BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, which I am still somewhat astonished is actually being made.

Extra Tidbit: Mitchell was one of the fingers of the BAND OF THE HAND. A cheese classic!

The synopsis had me thinking this would just be a pile of depressing melodrama. But yeah, mentioning Mitchell totally turns my opinion around; I'm really excited for this.

you had me at John Cameron Mitchell... while Shortbus was a slight (mind you, slight) disappointment, Hedwig rocked, and I have a great deal of respect for the man.

This play is supposedly extremely dramatic and sad. Cynthia Nixon played the role of the mother on broadway and won the best actress tony. This is a potentially great film.

zzzzzzzzz

I for the most part shy away from the "based on book/ based on stage play" films-with only a few exceptions depending on the writer of such book and or play. This film.....sounds like a royal nap fest. No offense I hope? just my opinion.
