Ed Harris will star as the main villain in HBO's Westworld remake

Aug. 12, 2014by:

Confession time: I've never seen WESTWORLD. It's just one of those older movies I haven't had a chance to see yet, but I'll definitely check it out before watching HBO's remake of the 1973 movie. Like the film, the upcoming series will be based on the Michael Crichton novel, and while it already has a fantastic cast, it's being reported two more actors have joined the project.

THR has learned Ed Harris will play The Man in Black, the main villain in HBO's new series, and his character has been described as "the distillation of pure villainy into one man." The Wrap is also reporting Ptolemy Slocum (Looking, Veep, The Wire) has been cast as Sylvester, however there aren't any details on his character.

Ed Harris and Ptolemy Slocum will star alongside Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Jeffrey Wright, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Angela Sarafyan, Simon Quarterman, and Kyle Bornheimer in WESTWORLD, and Jonathan Nolan will direct the pilot from a script he wrote with Lisa Joy. Nolan is also executive producing the series with J.J. Abrams.

WESTWORLD has the potential to be an awesome series, and I can't wait to see robots running amok on HBO in the near future.

Well Harris can do creepy as f*ck psychopaths - A History of Violence immediately pops into my mind.
Sounds like a great role and could give the series an additional edge of credibility.

West World connection to Terminator

Watch the 1973 movie and it will remind you of what would happen if Terminator was chasing you through Disney or iff the animatronics in the rides all came to life to kill you. Welcome to Westworld!

Good for Marsden. He'll make for a terrific Gunslinger.

Not based on a novel!

Just couldn't help but notice a slight error in this article - WESTWORLD wasn't based on a novel, although Michael Crichton DID in fact script it and direct it.

As for the movie: I've never seen the original, and although this features a good cast, well...so did TROY. Just sayin'. :)

Ed Harris as a villain: FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC!!!!!!!!!!

So far everything about this shows seems to be coming together extremely well. The cast they're rounding up is excellent. I love that HBO is willing to get into genre work and take it seriously.

Holy shit I'm excited to see this, especially with Ed back in the villain seat again.

Good deal!

I was hoping we would get a hardened cinema legend to be the main villain for this series. So far its full of bubble gum actors and freakin Cyclops! (I doubt Anthony Hopkins will be in this longer than an episode or two)
