Eddie Murphy is afraid to speak A Thousand Words in this new trailer

Nov. 10, 2011by: Alex Riviello

A teaser trailer has just been released for Eddie Murphy's new film A THOUSAND WORDS. Calling it a new film is a bit of a stretch actually, as it's been sitting on a shelf for years. (It wrapped production back in 2008!) Never a good sign when a studio sits on a film like this, but it's finally making it out.

The concept is simple enough. Murphy plays a liar and blabbermouth who is cursed by a stereotypical Indian doctor after he goes back on his word. The spooky doctor curses Murphy and a tree grows in his backyard, a magical tree whose leaves are linked to Murphy's speech. Every time he speaks a word a leaf falls off, and when all the leaves are gone, so is Murphy. And there's about a thousand leaves left.

So basically you've got a film that's entirely made up of Murphy making funny faces and hand gestures, trying not to talk. It might've worked in the eighties, but now...

A THOUSANDS WORDS hits theaters March 23, 2012. Check out the trailer below.

Didn't laugh until John Witherspoon showed up at the end. Brought back memories of Vampire In Brooklyn. This looks mediocre at best. When will Eddie get tired of making this shit? He can do better.

Same director as Norbit and Meet Dave. Didn't Eddie learn with the first of the three ? What a trilogy.

Re: Final Thought

My very first thought upon finishing the trailer was "This film looks perfect for 1986...."

Let's see... pulls out of the Oscars in support of an idiot friend and his best role since 1999 is that of a CG donkey... I just can't find myself giving a damn about his projects lately. I don't want him to fail but he's already ventured off into Adam Sandler territory.

The Final Nail

He's done. What a turd.

In my mind I pretend that Eddie Murphy was killed in a plane crash in 1989. Ironically, Lou Diamond Phillips was on the same plane.

OMG!

Yeah, this movie is from 2008 when AWESOM-O started working in Hollywood. Then he moves to Sony and wrote Jack & Jill.

So it's basically a gimmick comedy, like Liar Liar.

@J. Burton - "when will Eddie get tired of making this ****?" - when people stop paying him I guess. How much money does anyone need?
