Eddie Murphy will be back as Axel Foley for Beverly Hills Cop 4

Jul. 29, 2013by: Niki Stephens

Don't be sad that BEVERLY HILLS COP will not be revived as a series. It seems that the adventures of Axel Foley are headed back to the big screen.

Paramount is moving forward rather quickly on what will be BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 with Eddie Murphy back on board. Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCAL and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES) have been hired to write the script for the new installment.

The reason for bringing Foley back to the big screen HAD to do with the success of the pilot that was filmed for CBS. Apparently it tested quite well and Murphy nailed it once more as the title character. The buzz alone made the studio realize that they needed to make another film. Well, I mean, aside from the fact that the series wasn't picked up despite the glowing reviews.

There are no details on the plot so we don't know if it will be a father/son story, or one that continues to give the spotlight to Murphy.

Now all they need is a director. Who's it going to be? I'll be waiting for someone to say Brett Ratner.

I am really excited about this news...but of course...he needs Judge Reinhold back...good story that has an R rating! and maybe even Ronny Cox. Definitely cant have a repeat of BHC 3..the movie really needs to get back to what made Axel famous.

Gotta get back to the roots

The third movie would have likely failed regardless, but one thing amongst others that killed it for me is that his trademark laugh was nowhere to be heard. I'm not sure who's idea it was, but I believe it was a bad one. The characters are great and are what drove these movies, if it ain't broke, don't break it.

It will be awesome to see the gripping daycare at the Beverly Hills Station that Axel runs now, who is murdering the tots only Axel can find out disguised as a 5 year old! Hilarity ensues.

I don't get the hatred for Brett Ratner. I think Michael Bay would do a good job with this though.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing the character again. I think Eddie directing this himself is a great idea. Another interesting choice would be Barry Sonnenfeld, I think he would be perfect for this type of movie

That's not entirely true.. But to say every movie is a sequel NOW? Dude sequels have been going on for decades! This isn't some new trend in. The last 10 years...

The Man himself...

Eddie must direct this. I think he is most qualified for the position of director as well as executive producer, actor, creative consultant, writer, casting director, choreographer, cinematographer, set designer, composer for musical score, location scout, camera operator, costumes and props, hair and makeup, etc...

I'd like to see Eddie come back to his roots. Hardcore, vulgar beginnings. Please not a father / son duo to try and pass it on to a new generation... it didn't work with Die Hard... did they learn anything? We'll see.

20 years ago I'd be interested but the industry has changed, and they just don't make movies like BVHC 1& 2 anymore. It's played too safe: guns, language, urban/suburban markets; white, black, asian, latino, homo/hetro audiences; just too many markets to contend with and tampering the final product. Eddie Murphy also is just off his game, he was all over the place in Tower Heist.

FINALLY....

now all that needs to happen is just have Eddie be like the Eddie we all remember from the first BHC and we are golden. I've been waiting for Eddie to get over all these kid films he's doing and going back to being a bad ass again. THE HEAT IS ON!

this reminds me of the Indiana Jones 4, they are probably gonna keep that kid as his son and have a father/son buddy cop film. It could be good but given that it sounds like a mix of Indy 4 and BHC 3, i'm not all that excited

Better be rated R!

Eddie Murphy has not had an R rated movie since "Life". Not saying he's only good in R rated films, but I miss the foul mouth cursing Eddie Murphy. We need him back, and if we get him as Axel Foley that's a great return for Murphy to R rated films. Just be better than "Beverly Hills Cop 3"....please.........

Needs to be Rated R ...

... and not feature a bunch of stupid cameos. Bring back Axel Foley the way he needs to be brought back. Learn a lesson from what not to do by looking at the last 2 Die Hard films.

For me to choose a director it'll depend on what the proposed plot will be.
*sigh* I was just watching BHC 2 the other day and i just realised how much I miss Tony Scott. Yeah it wasn't exactly a classic per say but but i'm sure if given a 2nd chance he would have put things right.

What'd be great is if BHC4 references the pilot

Like "remember that time your dumb kid came on to the force and tried to be you all over again?"

The only thing I ask, or rather DEMAND, make it RATED R!! The only way you can make a GREAT Beverly Hills Cop 4 is by putting Murphy back in his element and at his best with the proper R rated movie. Only then will the movie stand a chance. A pg series is fine, but BHC4 needs to be Rated R

Lol, we shall see. It's not like Paramount has back-tracked this movie about 16 different times already. ;)
