Edgar Wright's Ant-Man close to signing Patrick Wilson

1 year agoby:

Patrick Wilson (THE CONJURING, INSIDIOUS) is in talks to join Edgar Wright's ANT-MAN, Variety and Deadline report. Unfortunately, that's the entirety of the information we have on the matter at the moment, but fans of the comic book character can begin speculating who he'll be playing, if indeed he signs on.

Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Michael Pena and Evangeline Lilly will star in the Marvel feature, which revolves around the characters of Scott Lang (Rudd) and Hank Pym (Douglas), both of whom don the Ant-Man costume during different eras.

Disney will release ANT-MAN in theaters on July 17, 2015, which by my calculations is way too far from now.

Extra Tidbit: Who do you think Wilson will be playing in ANT-MAN?

Cool.

I thought he'd be a great Hank Pym. But glad to see him in a high profile film like this.

He's almost certainly...

the young Michael Douglas, right? And I'm pretty sure he was a name people were always mentioning for the role of Hank Pym when this movie was announced, so there you go. This movie better not flop, it has way too many good things going for it.

Hah, oh man, I didn't even put that together when I commented. I do hope you're correct.

I was about to say the same thing - he'd be perfect as Hank Pym (60s era).

Damn

He would have been a perfect (Ultimate) Hank Pym! I never thought about this guy, but he could totally have pulled off the jealous, angry, wife beating version from the Ultimate universe, which I'm extremely bummed they're not using =

Oh, I hear ya. Disney owning Marvel is a tradeoff, for sure. But it would just be so interesting and bring a change to the Avengers dynamic that's currently too friendly (Let's all get schwarma!)

Also: mmmm, schwarma!

Hmm, it might be because " jealous, angry, wife beating version" isn't really marketable for what is pretty much an unknown character to the general public. This is Disney we're talking about after all, they turned a raging alcoholic (Tony Stark) into a guy that might have had 3-4 drinks in 4 movies, missing the best chance to at least touch on it in Iron Man 3.

My money is on a young Hank Pym. Probably significant scenes in the first 30 minutes and featured in flashbacks throughout.
Or maybe the villain, but don't really know who Ant-Man typically fights against....

Maybe he is playing the third version of Ant Man, Eric O Grady. Hope he is playing a hero, but more than likely playing the villain.

Or maybe they would make Yellow Jacket a separate character from Hank Pym.

Another great addition to this fantastic film. He's a great underrated actor and will bring much depth to an already depth filled film. This film will be a great exciting way to open up Phase 3 and beyond.

The only negative about this is that Patrick Wilson would have made a terrific Doctor Strange. So give and take I guess.

I would be more hip to this news if he was playing the final Antman, I would also be okay with suggestion below of him becoming Yellowjacket, hope he's not a villain.

Love Patrick Wilson, so in whatever capacity he's involved is good news here.

They may be introducing Patrick Wilson as Doctor Strange.
Doc Strange being one of my favs, I'm for this.

Patrick Wilson is great. This whole film just reeks of talent at this point. I know nothing of Antman, and I am dying to see this movie.

Marvel appears to be on such a roll. It seems like casting their films has almost become TOO easy.
DC casts Affleck as Bats, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex, and the fans LOSE their minds. Marvel on the other hand casts Spader as Ultron, Rudd as Ant-Man, Cooper as Rocket and fans rejoice. This is good casting too. Patrick Wilson is solid.

I smell a baddie...

He was good in A-team and could work as the villain in a more humor driven Marvel film (which I think this will actually be).

Good actor

I don't see what villain he could be (still, I don't know Ant-Man's rogue gallery), but I'd love him to be a young Hank Pym, or Doc Strange (unlikely, though).
Introducing O'Grady, at this point, would be mostly confusing for the average moviegoer...

He always looks so bland in pictures but he at time can pull off more layers than a guy with far more mobile faces. Wish I knew the role before positively being on board though.

I like him...saw the The Conjuring...good movie and he was pretty good in it too. I agree with Cathelotte about Doc Strange. The second I read the headline...it was the first thing that crossed my mind.

Huge Patrick Wilson fan. Hard Candy and Little Children are two of my favorite flicks. This movie is going to be amazing.
