Edgar Wright's Ant-Man movie is the closest it has ever been

Apr. 3, 2012by: Alex Maidy

We have been hearing rumblings about an Ant-Man movie for the last few years, it just seems to keep getting pushed out further and further. But, with the impending success of THE AVENGERS, Marvel will be on the lookout for other heroes to add to the squad.

During a recent interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had this to say about the project.

It’s somewhere. I’ll just say it’s closer than it’s ever been in its long maybe eight year history, and I usually e-mail Edgar every two or three days and over those eight years its got further away and closer… we are now closer than we’ve ever been. So I hope it will come together shortly.

While that is far from a greenlight for the film, it is the closest we have to it.  Edgar would definitely take a unique approach to a superhero film but also show the genre the respect it deserves.

Extra Tidbit: Anyone else want Simon Pegg to play Ant-Man?

personally, i like the Ultimates version of Pym, pill-popping, wife beating megalomaniac. For that, i wouldnt cast Pegg or Fillion. I dont believe Disney will touch that with a ten foot pole, but it would be interesting. and the scene in the comics when Cap finds out he's a wifebeater and tells him to "step outside" is one of the best.

Nathan Fillion for Ant-Man.

I will take Alan Tudyk as my second choice.

Funny thing is 8 years ago some people would have said Simon Pegg as a superhero would be a joke. But after Hot Fuzz, Star Trek and Ghost Protocol I'd say the dude's more than ready for a legit starring action role.

Iron Man & the Raimi Spiderman movies proved that you can have a full throttle superhero action movie that is also as funny as most comedies.

But yeah, more than anything I just want a new Edgar Wright movie. He's made three great movies, each one better than the last. Remarkable.

Alan Tudyk. If it's going to be the action/comedy that it's been rumored (which I think is a mistake), Alan Tudyk would be the right one to star in it. Fillion's great and all, but he doesn't play nerdy like Tudyk does, and Pegg is just too...doughy to play a superhero (outside of The Boys).

If I remember correctly, Wright wasn't using the Hank Pym Ant-Man but the Scott Lang one.

Don't fuck around, man! Get the man we've always wanted for Hank Pym: NATHAN FILLION!!! Wright can have fun with the concept but he can also get really serious with it.

I don't understand why you people want Nathan Fillion for every role out there? That guy just doesn't have what it takes to be an A-List actor. To simply put, he sucks.

I think it's the other way around. Meaning you suck.

You guys ever see 'Firefly'? Yes, Fillion, for whatever reason, has not attracted great roles, but he certainly has the chops (go watch 'Waitress' if you want to see something you wouldn't expect from him). As for this specific role, he'd be perfect for Hank Pym.

If Pegg was cast as Pym, I would not be disappointed.
