Edgar Wright's The World's End has been greenlit and we have the first poster!

Jul. 13, 2012by:

So it's officially on-- THE WORLD'S END has been greenlit by Universal.

The final installment of The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy brought to you by Edgar Wright starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will start filming this October and is currently in pre-production. Yes! A thousand times yes!

Even more awesome is that we have the first poster from the film as well as a plot synopsis. The story starts like this, "20 years after five childhood friends attempted an epic pub crawl. The friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The Worlds End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankinds. Reaching The Worlds End is the least of their worries." Pegg and Wright co-wrote on the script.

The poster below names each of the pubs they hit up. It's a great tease for the fans who have been eagerly awaiting the final installment of the trilogy. I know this will be just as awesome as SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ.

Check out the poster below.

OH MY SWEET POOPTY PUEP

Imma be dancing in the streets tonight!!!
And since it's Edgar Wright, it can only be assumed that each Pub's title is a clue to a plot point.

Looking forward to the movie. But I don't think this is technically a trilogy, since Pegg and Frost aren't the same characters in each film, right? Also, what does the 3 flavour cornetto even mean?

Also, a trilogy doesn't necessarily need to have the same characters in order for it to be a part of the same story.

Cornetto is ice cream. It comes in different flavors. Nick Frost eats it in Shaun and Fuzz. Pegg eats it in Fuzz. Each of the three films features a different flavor.

A film about a pub crawl. Genius. Why has no one done it before?

This is seriously awesome news! For some reason, I thought Paul was the end of their trilogy... hitting the Zombie Genre, Action Genre, and Sci-Fi Genre. But I guess it didn't dawn on me until now that Edgar Wright didn't have anything to do with that movie so actually we've all been waiting for this.

I really hope they blow it up epic like one of those terrible Roland Emmerich flicks. What I love about Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz is that they start out very similar... but then dive
