Edward James Olmos Sons of Anarchy spinoff

There had been rumblings of some sort of prequel or spinoff series to FX's Sons of Anarchy even before the series wrapped up its seven-season run, but last year a spinoff series was officially announced which would revolve around EZ Reyes, "a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border who struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel as well as his need for respect from the women he loves." Now, with production on the series due to kick off next month, Kurt Sutter has tapped Battlestar Galactica's Edward James Olmos to star.

Edward James Olmos will star as "Felipe Reyes, the family's formerly strong patriarch who after years of being crushed by bullets and labor, struggles to keep his past buried and lead his own sons down a lawful and righteous path." Dubbed Mayans MC, the upcoming spinoff will be written by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, with Sutter directing the pilot as well. Mayans MC will be set post-SOA, so if your favourite SOA character didn't make it until the end of that series, it's probably safe to say that he or she won't be making a cameo appearance on Mayans MC. Sons of Anarchy is one of those shows which I always intended on watching, but, for whatever reason, just never got around to. Maybe knowing that Mayans MC is on the way will finally light a fire under my ass to binge the series.

What are you hoping to see in the Sons of Anarchy spinoff?

I'm in!

Loved SOA. I know it gets shit on by some people but I don't care. It was one of those shows that somehow was on my exact same wavelength at the time I was watching it. And the ending of Season 3... HOLY SHIT! I fucking loved that!

I'm excited to see a few specific characters return but in the interest of avoiding spoilers, I'll keep that to myself.

I don't understand the hate it gets. I mean the last two seasons were meh, but I've seen worse. (Dexter)

I loved SOA through and through.

I loved Dexter too. My issue with the ending of Dexter is that the show was an anthology of sorts. So they ended the last season just fine but the problem was that they only gave themselves about ten minutes or so to wrap up the entire series.

It would have been better if they didn't focus on another bad guy story and spent the whole last season finishing up Deter's story.

That what I liked about how SOA ended. The whole season was Jax getting his

That what I liked about how SOA ended. The whole season was Jax getting his ducks in order so when it came to a head it was satisfying... for me anyway.

... then there's The Shield. The ending of that show was brilliant. Any showrunner would do themselves a service and take notes on how The Shield was able to perform the perfect dismount they did.

I can't imagine a series wrapping up better than they way they did it.
