Eight new images from James Mangold's The Wolverine: Logan's lovely ladies and more! Plus two new posters!

The first full-length trailer for THE WOLVERINE is out on Wednesday but until then there are several new images and posters to help curb your Logan cravings.

EW had a First Look with director James Mangold where he shared these eight new images from THE WOLVERINE and talked a little about the film. There hasn't been too many pictures released of Hugh Jackman's supporting cast but in these new images we get a good look at Svetlana Khodchenkova as Viper as well as Tao Okamoto as Mariko (a woman Wolverine is trying to protect) and Rila Fukushima as Yukio, a woman who Wolverine becomes friends with while in Japan.

Take a look at the pictures posted below and the comments from James Mangold and Hugh Jackman. They talk about each character, how the film starts, and one of the themes for THE WOLVERINE so be warned it's a little spoilerish.

Wolverine 1

On why Wolverine is protecting Markio: ''At the time this movie opens, there's a kind of gangland war going on between law enforcement and the Yakuza, and there's been a lot of kidnappings and extortion. So she's someone who's under threat.''

wolverine 2

The villain Viper: ''As her name would imply, she's kind of snakelike. She likes to play with toxins. She's immune to toxins. She's kind of formidable.''

wolverine 3

''Viper views Logan like a great hunter might view hunting a lion in his quarry. There's kind of an admiration, a desire to destroy and a desire to consume and to have and to hold.''

wolverine 4

How Yukio and Wolverine connect: "I would say they have a unique relationship. She's lethal herself.''

wolverine 7

Mangold adds this about Yukio's fighting skills: ''She's a tremendous fighter.''

wolverine 8

On Yukio's style: ''I think she's both sexy and almost kind of sprung from the anime world. It's a real badass character.''

wolverine 6

Mangold on the fight scenes in the movie: ''There's an urgency and a kind of intensity and hand to hand physicality to the fighting that I hope is a little different than everything else out there."

wolverine 5

This one comes from Hugh Jackman and he talks about one of the themes for THE WOLVERINE: ''He realizes everyone he loves dies, and his whole life is full of pain. So it's better that he just escapes. He can't die really. He just wants to get away from everything."

Then over at Empire there are two new posters for THE WOLVERINE and both have a shirtless, screaming Logan smack dab in the middle:

James Mangold said that a ton of stuff related to THE WOLVERINE was going to be released towards the end of March and so far he hasn't disappointed. As previously mentioned the trailer is out on Wednesday (you'll be able to see a teaser for the trailer tomorrow) but there's still a bit of a wait before we really get to see Logan in action again when THE WOLVERINE hits theaters July 26th, 2013.

The first posters they threw at us gave the sense of a gritty dark tone to the movie. Wolvie in the dark and rain in almost all of them. Yet the 6 sec spot and these pics show quite the opposite with bright and cheery HD colors.

The teaser posters were hundreds and hundreds of times better. That black and white etching-like image of Wolverine with the bone claws? Wolverine crouched on a roof in the rain? The "photoshop and screaming" combo just cannot compare.

Okay

If I recall correctly Mariko and Yukio were in the Wolverine mini series but Viper and the Silver Samurai came along later in the X-Men comics that followed it. Looks like they might be using the entire original arc from the comics and not just the miniseries which makes sense because for marketing purposes you need Wolverine fighting more than Mariko's father and some ninjas.

It's all just a bit meh, need to see that trailer.

Part of me is incredibly optimistic because I want Jackman to get the Wolvie movie that he deserves, another part of me is flat our expecting a trailer that makes it look exactly like Origins.

Could go either way here.

Why is this film set in the modern times??!!!

Shouldnt this movie be set during the late 1940's or something?!?!
I am beginning to fear the worst once more! This still might not be the ideal wolvy film I was expecting and wanted!

Eeeek!

These photos make the production design look horrible. Hopefully they're just oversaturated for... whatever reason they would do that.

Loving the tone of these pictures. I'm glad they went more serious and gritty for Wolverine. I'm a big fan of the whole supernatural element of the previous X-Men films, but it'll be great to see how this one differs from the rest.

They say it's more serious and gritty maybe, but I can't see that from these posters.

Do the producers just give their infant kids construction paper and access to Microsoft paint and let them create these posters? Why would anyone pour their heart out on cutting a good trailer if you're going to lead it with this half assed bull shit?

Holy shit, those posters suck!
The formula is simple. One part Wolverine, and one part ninjas. Why throw in a character that seems an obvious knock-off of Poison Ivy? Keep it simple, keep it violent and tone down all these bright colors. This looks heavy on style and low on substance so far.

Aside from the second poster there, everything looks great. Heard the outline of the trailer we'll see and apparently it'll be the Wolverine we've always wanted in a film.

I love Wolverine don't get me wrong

but I'm getting tired of seeing him fight women! Mystique, that lady with the fingernails and now Poison Ivy (as ChefRavi called her)! I find it hard to believe these scrawny women can kick the ass of someone the size of Jackman... (and this is coming from someone who can believe metal being fused to the bones of a man with a super fast healing factor)

Isn't the main bad guy in this the Silver Samurai? I hope so cuz yeah I'm tired of it too, not to mention a girl who's immune to poison that is very "snake-like" doesn't seem like a strong antagonist for Wolverine.

people, people

Remember the X-Men: First Class posters? Don't let these posters sway you. These are the only bad posters i seen for this movie. I'm really hoping for the best of this movie. Its already looking better than the first one. The character isn't my favorite character in comics, but I do like Hugh Jackman. He's one of those actors I actually like and hope to work with if I get lucky enough to become a director after I graduate. Let's see how the trailer looks before we trash a film, with the

Losing faith

With each new picture I'm losing hope in this movie. It looks too clean - too slick. And that last poster. Dear God that last poster... Still holding on, though. I really really want this to be good.

Whoa. That Last Poster

Is the worst poster I have ever seen. I don't even know photoshop and I bet I could do a better job. I hope it's not a real poster. If it is, someone should take more photoshopping classes.
I keep looking at it and thinking...."It can't be a real piece of promotional work for the film, it can't be"

I'm not gonna start judging this thing until i actually see some footage, but as far as the photos are concerned, other than the amazing taylor job Wolverine is getting (TIDBIT: Hell yeah he looks slick), I'm kinda underwhelmed with this so far, gotta agree with Chefravi, VIper does have an Uma Thurman/Poision Ivy vibe. The 2 new posters are just awful, the first one looks like a bad Dark Knight rip off, while the second one, do I even need to say anything, its awfulness speaks for itself.

That's a kickass poster. However, and I might be wrong here, isn't Yukio suppose to be "Yuriko" a la Lady Deathstrike?

Agree with Bigger Boat.. they're both bad. As I was scrolling down and I saw that first one, I thought "damn, that's kind of awful." But when I scrolled a little further and saw the second one, I thought it made the first look like a Van Gogh.
