Electro! Rhino! Goblin! First trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2!

Dec. 5, 2013by: Jesse Giroux

The first trailer for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 has been released, and it features a ton of teases for the Sinister Six! Besides the main villains that will be used in Marc Webb's sequel, the trailer also has quick shots of what looks like Doc Ock's mechanical appendages, and the Vulture's flight harness. Very fun to see both of items, and I think a lot of Spidey fans are going to be extremely excited for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 after watching this trailer.

Not everyone has a happy ending.

Synopsis:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 also stars Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Felicity Jones, Chris Cooper and B.J. Novak, and will swing into theaters on May 2nd, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: What do you guys think? Better than the first trailer for the last movie?

I dunno.

As a big fan of Raimi's take of Spidey's origin, I was a bit let down with the first film in this series. And as a huge nerd, I can also say that I'm bummed that we're getting Robo-Rhino instead of [link] in this one. I will say that I love how the costume is ripped right off the pages of the comics. Classy.

Still on the fence

Trailer was cut well, but it still feels like the villians are going to be too campy, with Harry Osborne leading the way with his over-acting. CGI looks terrible and likley to be overused. I'll still watch it, maybe in theatres, but definitely not in any rush to do so.

Boooo!

I thought the first film was borderline terrible, but this could possibly be worse. I have the hardest time accepting Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, he acts like a "cool" douchey skater kid, which doesn't work. All the dialog seems forced and over acted. Add in the horrible character designs for the villains and this just isn't something I'll be going to see. The only thing they got right this time is the costume and the way Spidey moves during the action shots.

Meh

Think I'll skip this one too, just like the first one. I'll wait for the reboot of the trilogy in like 5 years.

Looks Awesome!

Damn, I don't know what looks better this year. I'd say Days of Future Past might still be my most anticipated but this is really really close. I'm ready to say this might be best Spiderman movie ever. I love how there doing the story and the whole thing feels truly like the comics book wold at its fantastical best. Seriously this is probably one of coolest comic book world ever created in cinema. My only complaint is it does make me wonder how they will fit it all in and it does feel like

Still very cool but I would hate to see Electro or Rhino get their role reduced.

Seems like a decent enough trailer. Same old graphics / nothing new and ground breaking. Rhino stands on his back legs which is a good thing I guess. Wish he was wearing the Ultimate armor and charging on 2 feet. Harry wears the armor from Elysium ( can't we get a glider that remotely has the goblin look? ) I wish it wasn't Garfield and instead was Logan Lerman or someone that was a teenager/early 20's. The final battle scene with Electro, looks like it's straight out of a video game. I'll

I love Spider-Man!

He's one of the most complex superheroes: he has to face his enemies, he has to face his personal life, and the collison of these two is always the biggest thread of the story - not the name of the enemies, nor the number of them.
I love it in comic book form and so far, I loved it in motion pictures. I'm not saying all the movies were great but to me, even his weakest film is better than some other cinematic superheroes' best efforts. So, I'm excited for this.

I am looking forward to this film

But I think all three of the villains look ridiculous, with Green Goblin being the worse offender.

I like a lot about this. Seems like a really exciting Spider-Man movie. They need to work on some of those FX, though. Spider-Man himself looked very cartoony. Electro still concerns me a bit, too. But I'm there opening weekend.

@ Bob Loblaw

1. Could you elaborate for the schmoes and myself how they are trying to emulate Raimi? 2. Is that a bad thing? Pretty much everyone that hates the remake praises Raimi for his work (minus the third film) and 3. I get what you mean about the villains. I think its for the average movie-goer whos first response to everything is "Well how did he/she afford to do/make that" Oscorp funded it all I guess

Sony fired Raimi, and now they are ripping his style. The dialog is very Raimi-esque (I could almost hear Toby Maguire's voice), the wild camera movement, and the visuals. The first Amazing Spider-Man might have retreaded the same origin story, but at least its style was its own.

I'll give you the dialogue. But the wild camera movement comes with the territory, you can't really have a stationary shot of Spiderman running from the Rhinonator. The visuals though... I think Raimi did a great job of not using too much CGI with the first one. I dont think the effects are overused in the new versions, its just why I like them separately. Raimis versions were more story driven, these are more effects driven. Im cool with it.

Agreed! When did Spider-man become some dark brooding comic book?

Um, never! Spider-Man isn't meant to be this serious emotional saga, trying to be Batman, his costume itself suggests a less serious, tongue in cheek, fun character. And Andrew Garfield is nothing like Spider-man, Garfield tries to act all cool and shit, Spider-man was never trying to be cool.

Good trailer

I'm already more impressed this this trailer than any of the first movie's trailer. The CGI seems off but they have five months to work on it, so I still have hope it will turn out well. The number of villains in this movie does worry me, but I will reserve judgement about that until I know more details. I really hope TASM2 turns out good.

Also Bane was Bruce's replacement in the LOS.

Too many villains doesn't cause a bad movie. Too many cooks in the kitchen/director's chair does. The sinister six is a big part of Spider-Man lore and it looks like it's being handled with a great deal of care. Webb's first impressed me, and it appears his second will up the ante.

The Sinister Six is a big part of Spider-Man's history and it was inevitable that we'd see it in a film. So I don't understand the criticism of there being too many villains. The trailer looked great and I'm looking forward to this one.

Looks awesome. Three villains can't work? What about The Count of Monte Cristo? As far as Superhero movies go Dark Knight and Thor 2 juggled multiple villains just fine. Spider-Man 3 had a Bad screenplay, bad concept designs and having three villains was not the problem. The production team f**led up. This one looks better already (except Harry's haircut)

From the trailer for 3 we got "this is the man who actually killed your uncle" and it only went downhill from there.

Raimi's second was his best, maybe it'll happen for Webb too.
Now my hopes are high for Bryan Cranston as the Vulture, Philip Seymour Hoffman as Doc Ock and Dwayne Johnson (or Liev Schreiber) as Kraven!

I'm sick of the Woe is Me, Emo Comic Movies...

TAS is the worst offender in the emo douchbag department and this looks like its on an ever worse level of douchbags. I can't stand that Dane kid and his face makes me want to punch ponies.

Also, why are they copying Franco's Goblin look? The movie would be more tolerable if we didn't see that ridiculous makeup that somehow makes Dane look even uglier.

I like what I'm seeing

I like what Webb is doing with his Spider-Man films (they seem to be building up to something epic), and his inclusion of three distinct villains but with similar motives makes the inclusion of so many less of a nuisance than what we got in Spider-Man 3. Also, I liked the brief end sequence with Electro and Spider-Man fighting (I have a feeling the Time Square battle won't be the last fight we see in the movie). I also like the nods of things to come with Vulture and Doc Octopus. My only

I have nothing against Spider-Man the character. I liked Spider-Man 2, but this looks like a huge fucking turd laden with bad CGI trying to cover up shitty acting and story. There is literally nothing in this entire trailer that makes me want to see this movie. The only way I might see this is if netflix gets it, and even then maybe not.

What a mess.

This movie doesn't even stand a chance. Spider-Man can barely beat the Lizard in the last one and now he's facing up to 3 villains? Good luck, Spidey. Speaking of 3 villains, as we've learned in the past (the prime example just happens to be a prior Spider-Man movie) cramming too many villains in one movie is a DISASTROUS idea. Unless in this movie we get a clear cut well thought out explanation for all 3 being there, it's just going to be muddled exactly like SM3 was. And don't even get me

And don't even get me started on how badly they are destroying the Rhino and Electro. Let's see, terrible video game looking cgi is of course worth mentioning... Well, Spidey's suit looks better. And I guess the teases of Doc Ock and the Vulture were pretty cool. "Will they show up in the even more of a shitty mess Amazing Spider-Man 3" is such a fun question for us nerds to ask.

I'm assuming being a teenager just learning about his powers and having no idea how to really fight is why he got his ass kicked in the first one.

Yup, you're right. 3 villains = No chance. At the end of this movie, Spider-Man will be killed and the bad guys will walk away triumphant. They will all stand over Spidey's corpse and say "Man I can't believe how easy that was!" The movie will be only 23 minutes long.

I'm just talking about the aesthetics of it. The first Amazing Spider-Man was a Batman Begins-type reboot with an emphasis on a 'darker' story. They even made the Spider-Man costume a lot darker and more gritty-looking. But this one - from the bright, sunny outdoor shots to the colorful CGI - looks like a direct sequel to Raimi's films. Hell, they even changed the costume back to Raimi's, it just has bigger oval-shaped eyes! I didn't see any 'practical' effects shots in the costume which the

I'm curious to see how this pans out. It's almost like after the success of the Avengers movie (which was bright and colorful) they decided to go back to the original style of the Raimi series. Nothing about this looks remotely dark or realistic in the sense of the first film.

Sinister Six

If they are building towards the SS, does that mean none of the villians in this movie will die? Also, whos gonna be sixth villian? Looks like its gonna be Goblin, Electro, Rhino, Vulture, and Doc Oc, whos the 6th? I hope its either Shocker or Kraven. But so far this looks pretty good, looks better than the first one. But i hate how they made Rhino.

It is what it is . . .

My son is going to love seeing this movie in the theater. I'm going to enjoy hanging out with my son. If by some chance I enjoy the movie, it's a bonus. I didn't hate the last one, but I didn't connect with it. Ironically, I felt the same way about Rami's first one. Spiderman II knocked my socks off, so maybe lightning will strike twice (no pun intended).

First impressions.... Are they still going for the realistic approach? Rhino is wearing a metallic suit and yet Electro looks something fantastical. This movie can't make up its mind. Visual Effects here are not impressive, Spider-Man looks cut out from the background for some reason. Transformers VFX from 2007 looks better. Acting is superficial, from what the tone is in this movie I guess that's all we need since we have so many villains to worry about.

Since the first Amazing Spider-Man film. The tone was more serious, it was set to what if Spider-Man was set in realistic New York city and how we would view him in that/our world, they established Spider-Man as a vigilante in a costume, like the tone in The Dark Knight series. Which is okay in my opinion. But then his villains got to follow that as well but they didn't which breaks the established tone apart.

Yeah I saw that DeejayForte. I totally agree with you. Also yeah Sam Raimi did make one of the best comic book movie of all time, why? Because it has elements of a comic book in the movie. One of it being you watching it and saying "Whoa! A Superhero!"

I love the Dark Knight a lot but it doesn't have that comic book feel. It's just great filmmaking. They still gotta bring Batman into the screen like his comic book counterpart. But then again there is the Arkham video game series so not

I know Garfield is a good actor, so why is his acting so shitty in this trailer? I dare you to watch it with your eyes closed and tell me your not listening to Mannequin Skywalker himself Hayden Christensen. Do it and tell me I'm wrong I dare you! Especially the part where he's taking to aunt May.

Yeah that's the worst thing about this needless reboot. Garfield is one of the fines actors of his generation (just watch Boy A and Red riding 1974) but I think Spider-man will ruin his career. Hel has he even done another film between the first and second Spider-man movies?

I am really on the fence with this one, there is so much I like and so much I hate. I will give it a chance the first one really surprised me. But The Green Goblin, why oh why do they have to mess with the look? I think fans know the character so well that they would accept an actual goblin looking character. stop tying to be Nolan and make him look "real".

Simple solution. Dialogue between Harry and Person [his dad, an Osborn tech, whoever]. "But they're gonna see your face." *Harry smiles.* Optional (probably deleted) scene at a Halloween store, Harry scopes the selection, finds one, leaves. Reveal he's killed the clerk.

Yeah, cheesy, but it's a means of explaining the exaggerated mask. I agree we deserve that incarnation.

Anyone hating on the CGI needs to shut the fuck up. Just shut up. You all freaking know better by now. How many films have trailers where the CGI looks unfinished only to come out and look like a massive improvement? Damn near all of them. It's common fucking knowledge these days a trailer is not an indication of the final product as far as CGI goes.

And who the FUCK complains about CGI in a superhero film anyway? Showing concern for the quality of it makes sense to a degree, but simply

Also, flashbacks

Anyone else catch at least one glimpse? Specifically 1:42, looks like Richard Parker and Norman Osborn are going at it hard. The confrontation that leads to Pete's parents skipping town? Perhaps. Wonder how many flashbacks there will be... And lastly, who is the dude in the fedora? Norman Osborn in a flashback as well? Or present day, with the Goblin formula? Somebody else entirely?

I could see that. It has a similar tone. Like you said it won't happen. However, he did mention something about there will come a time when he won't be able to handle it himself. And I read a few weeks ago that Sony was in talks with Marvel/Disney about characters to expand the Spider-Man cinematic universe. So maybe we will get someone else in the movies.

Have to admit, I didn't care for the last one and wasn't at all excited for this one, but that trailer has me intrigued. I think the parents' background story is a waste of time and the CGI is definitely in OVERKILL mode, but I kind of like what I saw. Definitely helps that seeing the Spidey origin, AGAIN, is out of the way.

I could care less if Harry is the only Goblin we see. Just a minor alteration in my eyes, kind of like the organic webbing in Raimi's version. Just don't

Can't believe they showed Doc Ock's arms & Vulture's wings in one shot. Sinister Six is inevitable for the follow up film.

Dig the trailer. And by my count...

...we've got our Sinister Six. Electro, Rhino, Goblin, with teases of Vulture and Doc Ock, and likely the return of The Lizard (who didn't die, if I'm not mistaken...?). Pretty good line-up, if you ask me. I imagine Colm Feore is set up to become Vulture. Wonder if Doc Ock will have a similar seed in this film -- if so, will they actually cast the role? Any thoughts on that casting?

Were my expectations too high?

I freakin' love Spider-Man! But nothing feels right in this trailer. I see a few similar scenes from The Dark Knight Rises and Iron Man 3/The Avengers. Every line is delivered with an overly dramatic tone that just doesn't get me pumped. This film feels overly influenced by other big blockbusters and not the source material.

Spot on...god my 10 year old is spoilt rotten when you look at what I had to watch (and loved) at that age! I thought that terrible Hulk vs Thor fight was the best thing ever to grace the small box...and I was a few years older than 10 at the time! I thought the ending to the trial of the Incredible Hulk was very cool with the Hulk and Daredevil jumping up and down and waving at the Kingpin as he was getting away. I will still maintain that Spider-Man's fight with those three Chinese dudes

What a top notch choreographed fight scene! :o) Oh, I also think Superman 2 showcased the best Superman to date! You know what, may be my kid isn't so spoilt - I'm old enough to have had it all ;o)

They put together a slick trailer, but I'm still bummed they didn't even try to mimic Electro's yellow-and-green suit, or Rhino's bodysuit. Admittedly the Rhino mech looked cool, but it's still not the same. It's feels like they're changing those things simply for the same of changing them, which is odd considering it also looks like they made Spider-Man's outfit now look truer to the comic cooks from the first movie.

Here's to hoping they also move away from making it Twilight Spider-Man

fuck the cgi, I'll admit I can overlook bad cgi if the story is good enough(I'm a Doctor Who fan, nuff said). When Spidey caught that car it was the first time I could see him as an Avenger (even though that will never happen).

Got to admit the trailer has me excited but I still think the scene with electro at the end looked like a cartoon.

I really liked the trailer more than i thought I would. I could see this being better than the first one, but it probably won't match Raimi's Spiderman 2. However, I thought they were trying to keep the Goblin a secret? Or at least I though that was the original plan.

Looks great

Looks like the plot will be more balanced with the inclusion of these three villains (at least they're connected unlike Spider-Man 3), but what really gets me excited is Electro having seen him briefly to fight. I'm more curious to see if that is indeed The Gentleman (the guy in the top hat) since now we know Norman is bed ridden.

Okay that got me excited. I wasn't a big fan of the first film but I'm willing to give this a shot. It also looks like we'll get to see Doc Ock and Vulture in future films. Let's hope this turns out awesome.

Looks like a huge step up from the first film, Dane DeHaan looks good and I like what I'm seeing that Spidey is having a harder and harder time saving people from every day obstacles. It's just I'm not getting a vibe on any of the villains except Electro, which as a fan, I'm not so impressed they've changed him into pure electricity.

I was hoping the videogame look would diminish when it was actually in motion, it has not. And I just love the Rhino suit that looks like something Tony Stark would design while on a bender at a zoo

People are gonna bitch no matter what. Fans complained the first was too serious and dark....the sequels looks more colorful and vibrant and they bitch about that too. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. This looks wonderfully comic book to me. Bring it on.

as a bitcher, I feel I have to defend the bitchers al little. Most of us didn't complain about darkness, we complained about seeing the exact same film we saw 10 years earlier, only with lizard instead of green goblin this time. To be honest I thought the first one was even a well made decent film. But it was pointless!!(very comparable to say the remakes of oldboy and girl with the dragon tattoo). My personal complaint with this second one is not that it's colorful and vibrant, it's the fact

So far the action looks great. This might turn out to be good after all.

That actually looks fairly solid. I'm not completely sold on the film yet but right now, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt because I liked The Amazing Spider-Man far, far more than I expected to. It does look like it'll fun to watch in 3D and I guess something that's easy to forget is that The Amazing Spider-Man was Marc Webb's first blockbuster and if this trailer is any indication, he's become a pretty dab hand at handling large-scale action spectacle. Dane DeHaan does look he's going

Dane DeHaan does look he's going to steal the show. There's a bit of a young Leonardo DiCaprio vibe off him here.

Looks like fun

I thought the first one was pretty entertaining. Spiderman has never been my favorite super hero but the movies are always pretty good to see in theaters. I think this one looks like it improved a lot on the first.

Looks pretty wild. Although I'm surprised that Electro appears to have a much less dominant role now.

Looks like a massive improvement over the first movie, and the trailer definitely hits the right notes. Was really curious to how the Rhino was gonna be done, I guess I can accept this. I'm surprised to say I'm looking forward to this, wasn't struck on the first one.

I'm excited

I think it looks like a lot of fun, personally. I've seen all the complaints about Rhino's look, the CGI and Webb (among others) and while everyone is entitled to their opinions, I don't agree with the endless nitpicking. I want to be entertained and thankfully I'm pretty confident this will do the job.

But can we get some symbiote action soon too? I mean, Spidey can't take on all 6 villains without a boost, right!?

I wasn't a fan of the rhino suit, still not, but I have to admit that it does looks better in action. I guess we all can't have what we want right.

I think that giant tub of water might have been housing the symbiote? I will have to assume any way as they had Vulture like wings and Octopus like arms there as well.
