Elfman Terminates

01.10.2009

Tim Burton regular and former Boingo frontman Danny Elfman is bringing his musical gifts and shocking red hair to the scorched future. Hope he's wearing appropriate SPF.

Elfman is composing the score for McG's TERMINATOR SALVATION, adding yet another famous franchise to a résumé that already includes familiar faces like Batman and Spider-Man.

Elfman has reportedly just started working on the music, and when asked by MTV as to whether Brad Fiedel's original theme stomp would be included, he said: "I think if it comes up and it seems appropriate, we will [use it]. And if it doesn’t, we [won't]. I never really know what to expect when I begin other than just kind of get into it and have fun."

It should be interesting to hear what Elfman's diverse style can bring to the film. He had a busy 2008, putting sounds on HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY, WANTED and MILK.

Extra Tidbit: Elfman is married to Bridget Fonda, who basically disappeared after KISS OF THE DRAGON.

This just made the movie a little better. I like Fiedel, don't get me wrong. But if anyone can do Fidel's work, and then some. It's Elfman. Good idea rounding out the production with Elfman. I don't think there's any movie score I DID NOT like that he's done.

meh

I dislike McG and the idea of this movie as well as the visual look.

The score just got worse. Where is Brad Fiedel?

Cool. I love Elfman and Salvation looks pretty good(despite not liking anything McG has ever done) Elfman also has Wolfman coming up and that just makes since.

Right..

I'm with J.Burton. Why are we not getting the man who created the score for the previous films? McG isn't scoring any points going a "new" direction. Hopefully Elfman will keep in line with previous scores, as he has done previously.

Uh...

Is Brad Fiedel dead? If not, there's no reason why he shouldn't be used. I mean sure he's not as popular as Elfman or some other composers, but he created the Terminator theme. If he was good enough for Cameron, how come he's not good enough for McG?

That sucks for Fiedel. According to Imdb he hasn't worked since 2003. What gives?

One of my favorite composers for film scores, elfman rarely disappoints. I really hope they fit the original terminator theme in there somehow.

I love Elfman greatly. I think his music is superb. And CyclicNightmare, no his scores don't sound the same, they sound similar. He has a very unique style (which there is nothing wrong with) but each of his scores has a different feel that is appropriate for the film. Unfortunately, his work on Wanted was rather pointless as they hardly used his music, opting for songs by other artists. I think Elfman is a great choice for Terminator. He has already proven that he can take another's work and

He has already proven that he can take another's work and do new and exciting things with it, without ruining the original piece (Mission:Impossible, Chicago.) And I'm sure his new music will fit the film as well. It will most likely be similar to his work on Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes.

I think he's shown a lot of versatility lately.

I LOVED what he did for Milk. And the Hellboy and Wanted scores weren't as typical as most of his older scores.

I think he's been trying new things recently and I can't wait to hear what he comes up with! A perfect fit.
