Eli Roth will direct Russell Crowe as Dracula in the film Harker

07.11.2012

In case you don't remember, the film HARKER is a re-imagining of Bram Stoker's Dracula that follows the character of 'Jonathan Harker', now a Scotland Yard detective that's investigating a series of murders perpetrated by Dracula. We reported on Crowe's involvement back in February, though the assumption at the time was that he would be playing the title character...

Not so, says Deadline! According to Nikki Finke, Crowe will in fact be playing Dracula himself! That is somewhat bizarre casting, but I dig it and can't wait to see it if true. And what's more, Eli Roth (HOSTEL) has stepped in to take over the helm from UNKNOWN director Jaume Collet-Serra, whose busy schedule won't allow for the now fast-tracked Warner Bros. picture. This marks the second collaboration for Crowe and Roth, both of whom are also involved in RZA's THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS (a film I've heard through the grapevine features a lot of uncredited directorial work from Roth).

WB really wants Crowe in the film, and with Darren Aronofsky's NOAH beginning production in just a few weeks, the idea is to have everything ready for production on HARKER to commence within the next year, insuring that none of Crowe's other commitments get in the way.

Don't like Hostel? have you people no class? Seriously, I love the Hostel movies. And I also think Eli Roth directing a vampire movie with Russel Crowe as Dracula is a sweet idea!

Nope!

The HOSTEL films are some of the worst, trashiest pieces of filth I've ever seen. I have absolutely no faith in anything with Eli Roth at the helm. I'm not even that excited for THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS.

Russell Crowe would make a great vampire, though I don't know how great a Dracula he would make, as Dracula has always struck me as aristocratic and elegant yet ruthless, and Crowe seems more physical and brutish, but I don't doubt the guy's acting chops. I just hope that Eli Roth shows a little restraint for this one. A Dracula movie should be violent by all means, yes, but just not gratuitous and excessive as Roth has a penchant for. Don't judge me, I just really am not a fan of movies like

good news.....but how about that article about the updated site....guess it's not easier to just leave it open for people to post comments there. or to add a sidebar for stories, which seems like something a lot of people here would like back. "oh but there were only 15 stories that fit there. now we've made it better by dropping that to 10, and you have to scroll the whole page rather than just looking to the left."
stop making stupid excuses for a poor layout.
okay, last time i bitch about

Crowe as an evil bloodsucker is infinitely MORE AWESOME than as a good guy detective! Really really hope this won't turn out as that supposed NOTTINGHAM picture where he should've been The Sheriff of Nottingham, but in the end turned into Robin Hood in a traditional....ROBIN HOOD.

Is there any reason why all the classic horror stories need to be re-written so that one of the characters is a detective?
