Elizabeth Banks & others join Sandra Bullock's all-female Ocean's 11 movie

Ocean's Ocho Gary Ross Elizabeth Banks Helena Bonham Carter Mindy Kaling Banner

Showbiz 411 is reporting that Helena Bonham Carter and Mindy Kaling have been added to the cast of Sandra Bullock and director Gary Ross' all-female OCEAN'S ELEVEN movie, and that Elizabeth Banks, who recently dropped out of directing PITCH PERFECT 3, will also more than likely sign on for the reboot/spinoff.

The site has also confirmed that Cate Blanchett has been cast in the film, which is being referred to internally as OCEAN'S OCHO because it will feature an eight-woman team of thieves, and apparently production will begin "early next year, maybe right after Blanchett is done on Broadway." If true, that means there are still (at least) three major roles left to fill, so which other actresses would you like to see round out the crew of robbers?

Banks has POWER RANGERS out on March 24, 2017, while Carter can be currently seen in ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, and Kaling most recently appeared on the big screen in THE NIGHT BEFORE.

There's this anime called Cat's Eye about three sibling girls who become art thieves to get all their missing father's collections back. Why don't Hollywood get on that adaptation real quick? The source materials have existed for decades.

Great idea...

Hey Hollywood, I have this great idea. Lets redo every film where the main protagonists are male and switch them out with female actors. This will be such an empowering feminist move for women and so 2016.
Clearly there's no original material to use anyway which would have a strong female driven storyline, right?

It's a joke but we never really do have an actually good American lesbian love story.

This has been in development since 2013, so it's nice that it's finally getting traction. While at first bluff many may shrug their shoulders at another popular franchise shifting to a female ensemble, I like the talent they are recruiting for this franchise. For those that would prefer original franchises- if Oceans, Ghostbusters and Captain Marvel are successful at the box office, I'm sure we will start seeing more originals. Studios are simply using established franchises to test the waters

Plus Ocean's will be unique in that it will be one of the first female ensemble films that isn't rooted in comedy like Ghostbusters and Pitch Perfect.

OK I'm confused are we talking binary female or transgender feminine, or I guess non-binary, or non-binary with feminine leanings? If we're doing this, lets frigging do it right..

This doesn't sound bad, and all women in a heist movie can be a very sexy & cool idea. I agree with a lot of the people on this site that it'd be better to see original films starring women instead of gender-swapping roles, but it's getting really old & predictable how every time this site posts a story about all-female movies, the rating bar is nearly full red yet everyone commenting always has an excuse about why they're not supportive.

It just sounds like recycled stuff to throw at women while also not daring to create a new property. It could be good, but the Ocean's flicks kinda topped out with stealing as much as they did last time. I just don't see anywhere to go with this, especially with an almost entirely new cast.

I guess gender swapping movies with an all male cast is the new trend in Hollywood. Frankly I'd be more interested in a continuation with some new female blood added. Damon,Pitt and Clooney are the only ones you would really need to come back

Bridesmades and Pitch Perfect were original all-female ensembles films. But yes, I'd imagine that because female-driven films are relatively new, it's a safer bet for studios to use established franchises. If there was an original film about a female team of con artists and the movie bombed, I could see studios being more reluctant to produce more female ensemble films. Baby steps..

Yeah lets tarnish and ruin great established franchises just for the sake of appeasing a political agenda. There's nothing wrong with female lead films lets just keep them original. There's no need to test any waters in this day and age.
