Ellen Page and Jesse Eisenberg will star in Woody Allen's untitled film

Apr. 13, 2011by:

Penelope Cruz and Alec Baldwin are already on board for Woody Allen's next, and now Ellen Page and Jesse Eisenberg are joining in on the awkward fun.

The plot details are being kept under wraps, but Allen will be directing his own screenplay. Shooting on the film will shoot in Rome this Summer. Those are all the details we have so far.

So how many of you are still checking out Allen's films? I know quite a few people saw VICKY CHRISTINA BARCELONA, but what about YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER? And how many of you will see MIDNIGHT IN PARIS? What I like about Allen's films is that he can always get a stellar cast together.

I've noticed that the love for Woody Allen is usually split down the middle. Where do you stand?

Extra Tidbit: One of Allen's films that I think doesn't get enough love is SWEET AND LOWDOWN.

Not all his films are as good as some, but I'll always watch a new Woody Allen film. Great cast! Also Ellen Page looks really good in that picture.

Advice to Ellen...

...don't let Woody hit on you inappropriately.

Diane Keaton... Mia Farrow... Scarlett Johansson...

I think Woody will find his true muse in Jesse Eisenberg

Tidbit

Yes!

Eisenberg will either be perfect for Woody material, or bring out the worst in it. He's played that kind of role before. But yes, Allen can always be counted on to bring together an eclectic cast to tell his story. He's like a right of passage for actors or something.

I bet Eisenberg ends up playing a Woody Allen counterpart, seeing as he keeps writing parts for himself he knows he's too old for. Like John Cusack in Bullets Over Broadway, or Jason Biggs in that film no one remembers.

Either way, I'm excited. Eisenberg is one of the more exciting young actors.

Jessie Eisenberg playing Woody Allen prototype nerd is not a far stretch.

Of his recent work I really liked Match Point, Melinda & Melinda, and Vicky Christina Barcelona, found You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger to be enjoyable, and really disliked Whatever Works. This cast has me pretty hopeful about whatever this project ends up being called.

Love Woody Allen. Most of the time I can't stand Ellen Page. She was tolerable in Inception (nothing particularly special though), and decent in Hard Candy and Whip It, but generally she irritates the hell out of me. I'll watch the movie though--Jesse Eisenberg is amazing and I'm sorry, but anyone who compares him to Michael Cera in any way is a fucking idiot.

"Sweet & Lowdown" is my favorite Allen movie! Recently, he's been very hit and miss- I loved "Match Point" and "Scoop" but found "Vicky Christine Barcelona" and "You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger" to be lackluster. Still, I least enjoy the act of watching his stuff, even if I don't like the movies.

I will see it. Saw Tall Dark Stranger... wasn't crazy about it, definitely liked Vicky Christina better. I really enjoyed Whatever Works and Match Point. His last great film in my opinion was Sweet & Lowdown.

I am a huge fan of Woody Allen and look forward to any one of his movies. I like the casting for this movie, especially Baldwin.

I always like how each one of his films are in their own little universes with their own zany characters.

I thought one of Allen's latest movies "Whatever Works" with Larry David was very hilarious and much underrated. It also features Henry Cavill (aka The new Man of Steel).

Glad to see some love for "Whatever Works." I too think it's grossly underrated and hilarious.

A lot of people say Woody Allen hasn't made anything as good as his earlier work, but I still love the man. I've seen more than half of his 41 films and I haven't seen one I didn't like. I'm hoping he still has one masterpiece left in him though. In the meantime, I'll watch this...Just like I'll watch "Midnight in Paris" this year and anything else he writes/directs.
