Emma Stone drops a telling hint for The Amazing Spider-Man 2

1 year agoby:

Much of our talk about THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 has centered on the villains, but a small percentage of that is the debate over the fate of Gwen Stacy. If you notice her costume (possible spoilers) from the set shots, and you’ve read the comic books or know anything about the Spidey storyline then you know that the outfit is very telling.

Here’s the deal though: the studios don’t always follow what happens in the comics. You and I both know this. You’ve seen several comic book films that have steered far from the original storylines of the characters. So will Gwen’s character go down the path that the comics take her? Well, aside from the costuming we don’t know but Emma Stone did drop what some might say is a hint of what’s to come:

I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen’s story has closely to the comic as possible.

The actress then added this about Peter Parker:

Basically they’re going to see the continuation of the Spider Man story, which is the hero’s journey, and he’s up against a whole new squadron of villains and he’s struggling with promises he’s made in the last movie and the consequences of making those and what it’s like to be in love with somebody who you promised to not see anymore.

What thinks you?

But don't they realize

That if they stick to the comics there needs to be a sub plot where she actually sleeps with Norman Osbourne and gets preggo with twins that age really fast and come for revenge on Peter years later. No seriously, this actually happened in Amazing Spider Man. Fuck you Quesada.

They're definitely going to kill her off. I know studios take liberties with adapting comics to films and some thing just need to be changed for creative reasons or budgetary reasons. But even the studios know they can take this storyline only so far before they'll have to explore the Mary-Jane Watson storyline. So I'm assuming she dies at the hands of Harry Osborne in the third act.

Still, in the 'ultimate' continuity, she's still alive (or, 'alive again' to be more accurate), so there's still hope ;-)

Indeed, guys...
Many more reasons to hope she'll be here (or back from the grave), in this franchise's next episodes...

"I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen’s story as closely to the comic as possible."

Yeah, I loved that bit in the classic Spidey story where Hair-Gel Goblin teamed up with RHINO-209 and Mr. Hoodie Freeze and then RHINO-209 head-butted Gwen to her death out of a helicopter. It was deeply moving.

This is fantastic news

Sigh... People always say they want faithful adaptations, and yet even when they get them some people will still complain.

I really don't want to see her go...

...But it's necessary for story.
Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy has been breath of fresh air. Comparing her to the original Spidey movies' female characters, she has been the only convincing (and non-annoying) supporting female character in the franchise. A part of me hopes that she will live, but I think we all know she won't.

I think what's going to happen in this continuity is that Harry as the Goblin will kill Gwen, instead of Norman as the Goblin.

this isn't surprising, but sucks. I was hoping they'd keep her around for the third movie. also, speaking as a MASSIVE Spidey fan, it better be Green Goblin who kills her. If not, there's no point.

But then again, they've already changed the order for the Green Goblin, so fuck it!

Even though it sucks that she will be killed off soon, the story will be better for it. One of the best things it could do to differentiate itself from Raimi's original trilogy.

I know fans want the story to adhere to the comic

but losing Emma Stone is such a shame. I really like her as an actress and her chemistry with Andrew Garfield is amazing.
