Emma Stone says that the Spider-Man reboot will start shooting in two weeks

It's funny how the SPIDER-MAN REBOOT idea was dropped onto our laps earlier this year (January 11th, to be exact) and now, according to one of its stars, Emma Stone, it "starts shooting in two weeks"!! Wow. I guess with a release date already set on July 3rd, 2012, the earlier they get going, the more time they can spend on CGI post-production afterwards. Seriously though, Stone recently spoke to MTV and seems truly thankful for her role in the big-budget flick. "I don't think I ever will figure out how it happened. It's been mind-blowing. I know things will eventually change, so I'm just trying to avoid thinking about it and just enjoy it while it's happening. Ugh, what am I even saying? Don't write any of that down!" Cute.

She also sucks up to Comic-Con fans (see you there next July, Emma!) and says that she stays off the Internet (probably a good idea), and provides her take on Gwen Stacy and her preparation for the role, "Today I went and did hair tests, because I have blonde hair now since Gwen has blonde hair. My natural hair is blonde, so it's kind of nice. I looked in the mirror and said, "Oh my god, it's me again, it's been so long!" We're finalizing the visual stuff. And I think we'll start actually rehearsing, because we start shooting in two weeks. Andrew and I went and learned about science yesterday. Gwen really likes science, so we learned about science. I was home-schooled, so I never went to chemistry class in a traditional setting like Gwen is into. That was really beneficial." Read the entire interview HERE.

Extra Tidbit:	Ironically, Stone is a natural blonde (oddly enough, I can't find many pictures of her as a blonde) and is of Swedish descent. Ya!

I honestly don't give two shits about this remake. This is all Hollywood does anymore, remakes. Especially remakes of popular franchises. This Spiderman movie is laughable, as Hollywood couldn't even wait a few years before remaking a popular franchise.

And since this film is starting over and basing everything on the Ultimates comics (which is itself a remake), then that makes this movie a remake based off of a remake. Wow. Anyone who says these remakes aren't out of control is insane.

I don't agree with everything here since some are just minor goofs that all films have, but I think this covers more or less everything wrong with Raimi, Maguire, the plot and how badly the franchise was screwing up. Take a look see. Personally, I'm grateful for the reboot and can't think of a single movie that deserves it more.

No ones pushing for this reboot. But it's happening and with pretty decent people involved so you should give it a chance.

I only brought up Nolan because he was behind a very successful reboot. Nolan has not been mentioned prior to this except by you, now. I like Nolan, but that is completely unrelated to the Spiderman reboot.

Let me also say that I love Raimi.The Evil Dead Trilogy, first two Spiderman's, Darkman, Simple Plan etc. I'm one of the few that even likes Crimewave. Hell, I like the guy so much that I've searched out, found, and watched all his early shorts that he shot with his friends (including the Pre-Evil Dead, Evil Dead film Within The Woods). I even read If Chins Could Kill because I love those guys. That doesn't change the fact that SM3 sucked, plans for a fourth looked like shit, and that the reboot is shaping up to be pretty good. If I can admit when Raimi makes a bad film, I can definitely do it when Nolan makes one. Fortunately, he hasn't yet.

BTW, Thanks Terminal. I really don't get some of these responses I'm getting. It's like, people hate reboots so much that they refuse to accept that they themselves LOVE some of these very same reboots. They also can't see that this isn't being directed by Tim Story or Mark Steven Johnson. It's being directed by a talented director working with a talented cast. So what exactly is the problem here?

Wow, you really have some bizarre hardon for this movie.

Everything you are saying now has been said before. About Terminator Salvation, about X-Men 3, about Fantastic Four, etc... Whenever a movie is obviously headed in the wrong direction there is always some talkbacker who is saying "open your mind" while bringing up Nolan's Batman. (For the record, fans were begging for a serious Batman reboot long before Nolan came aboard. And no one is begging or even asking for a Spider-Man

It's just a difference of viewpoints on life, I suppose. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt whereas you'd prefer to hate everything before you've seen a single frame of evidence to support your hatred. Most of the world seems to agree with you, so maybe your viewpoint is the right one.

As far as that irrelevant crap about Terminator (from the acclaimed director of Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle) and Fantastic 4 (from the acclaimed director of Barbershop and Taxi), I could explain how this is in an entirely different class. How they've hired a small but acclaimed director (like Nolan was) for this film. How they've gone for an extraordinarily talented lead instead of some popular pretty boy of the month (he was hired pre-Social Network). How they've given this movie a year and a half production time, meaning it's not a studio rush job like X-Men 3 was (It had 6 months to shoot).

I could go on and explain how ridiculously ironic it is that while I'm making an educated guess on the quality of the film based on the facts listed above, you've already made up your mind that you will hate this movie based on absolutely nothing yet you have the gall to say that I'm the one who's already made up his mind. This movie may suck, but you don't seem to see the difference between keeping an open mind and making up your mind. I'm feeling good about this movie because the cast and crew (all we know about the movie thus far) are talented people. Until I find out something negative about the production, I have no logical reasoning to be against it (a fact you seem to be having difficulty with).

In summary, the reason I believe this will be good:

Marc Webb (Director of (500) Days of Summer), Andrew Garfield (Star of The Red Riding Trilogy, Social Network), Emma Stone (star of likable movies like Zombieland, Superbad), Rhys Ifans (Of the recent Potter film, The Boat That Rocked and much more), Martin Sheen(West Wing, Apocalypse Now), James Vanderbilt (the writer of the excellent Zodiac), and the year and a half production time.

The reason you think it'll suck:

It's too soon for a reboot.

The simple fact is that you won't read this. I'm writing this so that other, more sensible, people that are reading may see that at this point in time, there is NO reason to hate this movie. As far as faux thumbs are concerned, seeing as how you can only vote on a comment once, I don't see how I would go about doing that. If the green boxes bother you so much, I'll gladly change the extra 2 posts to neutral if you so wish. In fact, I'll do it right now. The thumbs i can't do anything about but I'm sure that in your childishness, you'll take care of that for me.
Lastly, maybe you'll see that it's not that I have a hardon for liking this movie, but that you have an unreasonable need to hate it. Good bye.

First of all Terminal, you thought The happening was a good movie, so your opinion is not worth shit. As for oldmen, this movie is going to suck and come nowhere close to being better than the original trilogy. Yeah I'm so glad to watch the origins AGAIN about how Peter Parker became Spider Man..AGAIn.

Yeah can't wait to see Martin Sheen and Sally Field "half ass" their roles. Real inspired casting there. The only thing this movie has going for it is Marc Webb and the writer from Zodiac.

The orignal trilogy was both a success at the box office and critically, so I don't understand why the hell Hollywood feels the need to ALREADY reboot this franchise. I can't wait til this flops and no one will want a sequel. I hope this does flop and we get a better reboot down the road, like 10 years from now, not yesterday.

If they really did not want Raimi to do anymore Spider Man movies and if Maguire did not want to come back because of that, then the studio should have recasted Spider Man and have gotten another director and SHOULD have CONTINUED the storyline that Raimi set up. I would have been fine with that. The thing that pisses me off the most about this is the fact they are starting all over again for no freakin' reason. Idea for SP 4, for director Marc Webb and for Spider Man Jake Gyllenhall, and villian Dr. Connors/The Lizard. Was that so hard Hollywood?

You can't compare Webb to Nolan. You shouldn't even say their name in the same sentence.

Nolan's Memento was hailed as a masterpiece of cinema. It jumped into the top 10 at IMDB shortly after release, and JoBlo even gave it a perfect 10/10 rating (and he has only given fifteen 10/10 ratings in the decade+ this site has been around).

Nolan proved, with Following & Memento, that he was a master of pulp noir, a genre Batman is very much rooted in. Nolan was also the top director in fans' wish list of "potential Batman directors" (oddly enough Christian Bale was also fans' #1 choice for Batman. I guess the WB was really listening to fans back then).

Webb hasn't came close to accomplishing what Nolan did before Batman. Webb made one entertaining & cute movie. Nolan made a great independent film (Following) and followed it up with a masterpiece (Memento).

Also, James Vanderbilt has only written one good movie with Zodiac. Darkness Falls, Basic, The Rundown, and The Losers are all mediocre to bad scripts. So 1/5 isn't even close to being a good track record.

I doubt it. I doubt little will compare with that first rush of seeing Spidey on screen in action for the first time in Raimi's first Spider-man. People take the comic stuff for granted now--I would've killed to have this many movies, good and bad, based on my favorite characters when I was a kid.
Long way of saying: I'm not thrilled about a reboot, but I'm glad the character is still getting movies made about him.

I completly agree with Ayestrain. Seeing Spider-Man onscreen for the first time was special, now it's old news. No way the reboot tops the Raimi version in sales or in quality. Just becuase it has a bunch of A-list actors doesn't mean it will automatically do well.

I read what you had to say and to be honest, I thought it was just fanboy drivel.

I honestly don't see how you compare what was done with Batman to Spider-Man.

The Spider-Man films (except for the 3rd) have been hailed as some of the greatest films in the genre. Batman & Robin was hailed as the worst film in any genre. Even Forever was a lame film. The Batman franchise died, completely, and Batman & Robin was an embarrassment that bombed at the BO. Even Begins performed weak because of the memory of the last few films. That's how bad the Franchise became.

The Spider-Man franchise is as strong as ever. Spider-Man 3 (while admittedly a mediocre film)kick ass at the box office. There is no need to reboot/remake Spider-Man. Especially when the last film came out only 3 years ago!

Clearly you didn't bother reading my posts so I don't know why I'm still writing but whatever, I've got some time to kill. You wanna know how I know you didn't read my posts?

If you'd read my posts, you'd know that the high school origin plotline was indeed the original idea but the hiring of the almost 30 Garfield obviously hints otherwise. Also, what if they treat the origin of SM like they treated the origin of Hulk in Incredible Hulk. Cover everything in the opening credits, then move onto the action. You can doubt that that's what they'll do till you're blue in the face, the fact is you don't fucking know. As far as pandering to the teenybopper crowd, I guess I forgot what intellectual films the first 3 were. Yeah, they were made for adults, hence the pg-13 ratings and being as family friendly as possible. Yeah, they weren't for the teenyboppers. Damn you're delusional.

So Spiderman 3 wasn't Batman and Robin bad. It was certainly as bad as Batman Forever and as I stated in my first post, Raimi didn't leave very many options open and the ideas he had brewing would have been a Batman and Robin level disaster. Vulture and Vultress for fucks sake! So imagine if they had rebooted Batman after Forever instead of after Batman and Robin. That's whats happening with Spiderman. I guess until Raimi completely destroyed the character into a bloody pulp, you guys are going to live in some fantasy world where everything would have worked out. All the actors would come back, Raimi would make Vulture into some sort of watchable villain, there would be plenty of options for future films etc. If you believe this crap, then you, my good sir, would be the definition of a fanboy. Refusing to see the problems with SM 3 will get you nowhere. Spiderman 4 was not going to happen. Ever. Now you guys may like to wait 20 years for another Spiderman movie due to some weird reasoning that rebooting a movie is fine, you just have to wait a certain amount of time, but I'm fine with 5 years.

Oh, also, I forgot that box office means everything right. That's why everyone here is so excited for Transformers 3, right. TF3 will make a lot of money, but no one will be happy. SM4 would have made a lot of money, but I don't give a flying fuck. I want a good Spidey film. I don't care how much it makes. I would like it to make enough for sequels, but really who gives a shit how much a movey makes if the quality isn't there. SM 3 made money because it was the sequel to an amazing film. Plus it had plenty of fight scenes to keep idiots in the seats.

Sorry, but I think it's absolutely ludicrous for you guys to lash out at me for saying that you should keep an open mind. I'm not saying this film is guaranteed to be amazing but clearly, this isn't an X-Men 3, Fantastic 4, etc type of rush job that studios do. They've hired a promising director, a lead actor that's looking at some oscar noms, a successful lead actress and the supporting cast is being filled out by extremely talented(Martin fucking Sheen) actors.

In conclusion, I'm sorry I asked you guys to keep an open mind. I'm sorry I asked you guys to look at the details of what SM 4 would have been. I'm sorry I asked you guys to stop hating something that hasn't even started fucking filming. Me, I'm gonna keep an open mind about this, as I do with all movies that I haven't seen yet.

Can't wait til the film flops. To be honest, I wouldn't have minded if Dunst didn't come back or if they just recasted her only. I would have been fine with just Maguire and Raimi coming back. They were the "main" stars anyway of the franchise. Just how the Batman movies recasted for Rachel and that was perfectly fine.

Big fan of Spider Man and loved Raimi's trilogy and would have loved to see a fourth one. But since, that will never happen and we are having this unnecessary reboot, the only thing to do is hope that this movie does well. It will probably be average at best and just too weird since it has only been a few years since SP3. I loved (500) Days of Summer and think Webb is talented and think Stone is a talented actress and thought that casting for the villian was inspiring. I just thought Sheen and Field were too cliche or typical. Not the biggest fan of Garfield either (my biggest turn off for this movie). Also, no one was cast as JJ yet?

If this movie flops and doesn't warrant a sequel, then all of this will just have been pointless and waste of everyone's time and money.

You know, I pretty sure I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this but I just watched 500 Days of Summer for the first time yesterday and I actually think this movie will end up being better than the Sam Raimi films. I liked the original movies well enough but I never thought they were as good as they could have been and so far this is shaping up to look more like what I would have liked to see to start with. Not saying for sure but my hopes are high.

Spiderman is the most popular and financially successful superhero franchise after Noaln's Batman. And it's been my experience that most non-comic book fans like the Spiderman series most out of all the superhero films. Now combine that with the fact that you can't alter Spiderman as easily as you can Batman, the only sucessful superhero reboot. NY will still look like NY, the costume will most likely be the same, and you really can't make Spiderman more realistic the the first set of movies.

I don't care how good the trailers will be (and I'm sure they'll be good, trailers for big comic book movies almost always are), but there is no way in hell I can support such an unnecessary & unwanted reboot.

I don't care if the original talent isn't involved. Take a page from James Bond or The Wolverine and just tell a stand alone Spiderman story. There is no need to reboot and shove a different take on what we've already seen down our throats.

Casino Royale was definitely a reboot of James Bond. Beyond just a cast change, there was a tonal and dramatic shift as well. Bond is no longer focused on gadgets or surreal, almost cartoonish villains. They attempted to ground the franchise in reality. If you believe Batman Begins is a reboot (of Batman and Robin), then Casino Royale is too (of Die Another Day), for the same reasons. As far as Wolverine, It will not be a sequel or related to any of the previous films. If you feel The Incredible Hulk is a reboot of Hulk, as most do, then this will be along similar lines.

I'm also curious as to what you believe to be a standalone film. If there were to be no sequels to this film, would you be ok? Or are you against the idea of showing the origins again because we don't know the plot yet and for all you know, there will be no origin story. Maybe they'll treat it like they did in Incredible Hulk, with just a quick refresher so that people aren't lost. Originally it was supposed to be a retelling of the same story but in high school but by hiring the late 20's Garfield, that is no longer the case.

As far as your last line, all I can ask is are you fucking kidding? Shove it down your throat? Exaggerate much. If you don't want to see it, NOBODY is going to force you to. If you're over your childish fanboyism by then, you can experience a brand new vision of a classic character, just as you'll be enjoying the third parts of the batman and bond reboots, the wolverine reboot, and countless other remakes, reboots and reimaginings that will be coming our way.

Dude, the Spider-Man movie franchise isn't even 10 years old and its already being remade (yeah, lets drop the buzz word of "Reboot" and call it what it is, a "Remake"). This remake bandwagon in Hollywood has reached a point of being beyond ridiculous. It's just insulting, especially now that they are remaking RECENT movies.

My point with James Bond is that most of the Bond films stand on their own, and do not require the previous films to be full movies (with the exception of the horrible Quantum of Solace). When they are going to reboot the franchise with a new star they don't keep retelling the origin story over and over. In fact we only got one origin story, and that was Casino Royale. The franchise reboots itself by simply telling a NEW self-contained adventure in the life of Bond.

10 years?. Batman and Robin 1997. Batman Begins 2005. 8 years. Die Another Day 2002. Casino Royale 2006. 4 years. Hulk 2003. The Incredible Hulk 2008. 5 years. All reboots, all imo (and IMDB scores agree) significantly better than the movies they were rebooting. The Spiderman reboot will have a 5 year gap. Yes reboot. Not remake. Remake implies the use of the same story ie. Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Nightmare On Elm Street. Reboot (not a buzzword) means that the same or similar characters are used but in a brand new plotline. Batman Begins did not have the same plot as any prior Batman film, hence it's a reboot. The new Spiderman film will not feature the Green Goblin and features Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane. Entirely new plot means not remake.

Now ask yourself, if you liked or loved movies like Casino Royale, Batman Begins or Incredible Hulk, how can you mindlessly hate this movie? It is EXACTLY the same situation. Some people even feel that Spiderman 3 was as bad as Batman and Robin and guess what? They rebooted that and we got a great film out of it.

And my response to this is that we simply don't know the plot to the new movie. For all you or I know, there will be zero focus on the origin. Even if there is, maybe we'll get something like Batman 89 to Batman Begins. Yeah, the origin was retold but in my opinion, it was done much better the second time.

Except that, as you said, Quantum Of Solace was a direct sequel to Casino Royale and Bond 23 will be a direct sequel to that. The reason it worked for Bond before was that they could just adapt a new Fleming novel every time. They have now run out of Fleming stories and are doing new material. That means each Bond film now looks like it will be a direct sequel to the one before.

Look, I've tried to explain this as simply as I can. I don't know if you'll see the flaw in your argument. The time between reboots is completely inconsequential if you have talented people behind the reboot. Like Batman and now Spiderman. I don't know if you'll actually read this and try to process what I'm trying to say but I hope you do and can get over hating this movie before it has even come out.

They announced her as Gwen weeks (maybe months ago) and Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb even earlier. I'm sure they've all been working on this since then, including rehearsals. It even says in the interview that she's learning about science right now because the character likes it. That means they've already started.

Looks like 2012 will be the biggest year for superhero movies ever. You have Batman, Avengers, Wolverine, Superman, and now Spiderman. Wow. I think it would be smarter financially to move Spiderman to 2013, since I think it'll have the hardest time finding an audience since most people aren't to thrilled about the reboot.

I'm still feeling very good about this movie and if they're spending about a year and a half on the production (Start december 2010, release july 2012) that means it's not some rush job. Good director, good cast, hopefully a good script and this movie is looking to be golden.

To the people that still wish this was Spiderman 4 with the original cast and crew, remember these little tidbits. 1) Kirsten Dunst didn't want to come back. 2) Raimi wanted Malkovich as Vulture for the main villain. 3) They already killed off both Goblins and Doc Ock.

There just wasn't much more they could do with that franchise. Some of the cast not returning, a ridiculous villain, and limited further potential, plus taking into account the quality of Spiderman 3 leads me to believe that it's almost guaranteed to have sucked. I wish there was a chance of a Spiderman 2 caliber film from Raimi but Spiderman 4 was definitely not looking like it would be it.

That's why I'm cool with a reboot in proper hands, which is what this looks like it's going to be.
