Empire's Dawn of Justice cover provides new looks at Batman & Superman

07.27.2015

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Zack Snyder Ben Affleck Henry Cavill Jesse Eisenberg

Empire has revealed the cover for its September issue, which features BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE's Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in costume, and a tiny look at the duo in their civilian duds. Affleck looks absolutely jacked as the vigilante, and he'll need to use every muscle in his body (as well as a few wonderful toys) in order to stand toe-to-toe with the Kryptonian.

Empire has also released a couple of quotes about the movie from director Zack Snyder and Cavill. Snyder says “There is just this gravitas to Batman,” and describes him as "operatic." As for Superman, Cavill explained that "In this movie, everyone has split into different directions as to how they feel about this alien. Some people love him, some hate him. Other people fear him. Is he a tyrant?"

Superman likely won't be a full-on tyrant in the film, however I'm curious to know what's going on with the patch-wearing soldiers from the trailers. Does he have his own goon squad, or are they just showing their support, since he saved a bunch of military people in MAN OF STEEL?

It's probably going to be some time before we find out though, since BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE won't be in theaters until March 25, 2016.

I can't judge too much on a still photo. I did so with Superman for Man of steel (hated it at first) and it ended up not bad in motion for the film. However, I can't argue with those who say it looks too big. Hopefully it moves better in the final product.

The Bat looks great, but Lex Luther????

The Bat looks great in these pics, very Dark Knight Returns, but Lex Luther is not even recognizable as the villain he is meant to portray. Just awful!

Lex LuthOR*

If you don't even know his proper name, I wouldn't be acting like such an authority.

That is quite a boring cover but that seems to be the fault of the magazine, not to the movie itself.

I agree that this is a bad angle, or maybe just a bad pic in general, but if you check out some of the clear bts shots, he definitely has a neck and doesn't appear "fat" at all. From the trailer footage and almost every other shot I've seen he doesn't look like he does on this Empire cover so I'm not worried.

I reckon that Ben Affleck will be the big surprise in this movie. Cavill, although a nice guy, still doesnt sell it for me as Kal-El. Maybe it was just the taste left after Man Of Steel. We will see.

okayy

I dont care about lighting, angles, or whether or not the head moves
this is the pic they put out to hype people up, same as the apocalypse fiasco, so it should be your best foot forward
the suit looks good, but that cowl is way too wide and looks ridiculous, If I was a criminal, that wouldn't strike fear in my heart, it would strike giggles in my belly

I'm glad none of you pussies built the Bat Suit. While Alfred and Bruce are concerned about creating a suit that strikes absolute fear into the hearts of the evil and the corrupt, you guys would be concerned about the neck looking a little chubby. Bunch a babies on here.

The Batsuit looks fine and I'm sure he'll be able to move his neck (and the rest of his body) very well. There's a big difference in seeing the suit on a magazine cover and seeing it live and in action on the big screen.

That Batman costume must really be a "love it or hate it" situation because I can't stand it. To me, Affleck doesn't look stronger, he only looks like he can't move. Miller's Bruce Wayne was big outside of his costume as well which isn't the case with Affleck.

Dude. Affleck is ripped and he's the largest Batman to date.

I'm not questioning Affleck's conditioning. I've seen pictures of him without his suit : he's in terrific shape but there's no way he needs a suit this big.

Isn't the suit mostly fabric with not much padding? For all we know the bulky look may even be his own actual muscle.

I seriously, highly doubt it. There is nothing in the pictures or footage of him that makes me think he would need a significantly bigger costume than any other actor who ever played a superhero. And it would be a bad idea for him to be that big anyway: he would be stronger but slower and running around with that much muscle would tire him easily. Considering he's supposed to play Frank Miller's Batman, it seems much more likely to me that they made the costume as big as they could to match the

He has a neck, it's just the angle of these shots plus the costume design and colors producing the illusion.

For those asking about Batman's neck, please see and refer to Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns the comic mini series that the film is loosely based on and draws heavy inspiration from.

I understand where the inspiration comes from but even in that comic Batman looks like he does have a neck but here it seems he doesn't.

As Netforce has mentioned...and at least one other poster in a previous post from several weeks a go...the lack of a neck, makes Batman look small and I can't get that George Bush tendency out of my head where he overcompensates by sticking his chest out, and ushering all the other world leaders in the direction he wants them to go to act like he's the all powerful boss :o) As for those S patch wearing soldiers, either Lex has made them to discredit Superman or they're some type of KKK

I'd like to say that's a thought I came up with but truth be told...it was the plot of an Earth: Final Conflict episode :o)

It does look like he's hunching his back a bit. Either that or the angle of the photo doesn't give this suit Justice it deserves.

Now that they put both Batman and Superman on the cover like this, I know what's wrong with Batman's costume - where is his neck? Everything else looks great but he looks like he has no neck whatsoever.
