Enter the world of Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book with the first trailer

Disney's classic THE JUNGLE BOOK is getting another animated take of sorts through the eyes of director Jon Favreau (CHEF, IRON MAN). The film follows orphan Mowgli, who is one of the few live-action elements, as he is raised in the jungle with the help of a pack of wolves, a bear, and a black panther. Featuring the vocal stylings of Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Lupita Nyong'o as Raksha, Christopher Walken as King Louie, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Scarlett Johansson as Kaa, and Bill Murray as Baloo, you can now witness the first official trailer for the epic, jungle adventure!

The footage shown at D23 was actually one of the bigger crowd-pleasing moments, and now we have an idea of what everyone was going nuts about. Jon Favreau's JUNGLE BOOK arrives more than a year ahead of Andy Serkis' variation, so I'm curious to see what the tone for the latter will be following this film. Either way, JUNGLE BOOK fans have a lot to look forward to come 2016 and 2017.

Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK will open in theaters on April 15, 2016.

Underwhelmed

Some good and some bad CGI, Scarlett Johanson miscast and the overall tone seems too dark for a children movie.

Scarlett Johanson as Kaa = miscast! miscast! miscast! Cate Blanchett will be her better in the other film in every way possible!

I guess I'm in the minority. I found the trailer and visuals kinda bland and uninspired.

i think we all know who to thank for allowing this movie to happen

Andy Serkis and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. ironic. but i bet "it'll be like Rise of the Planet of the Apes" was thrown in the pitch.

looks good with one exception

The voice of the snake SUCKS. Really, wrong tone, bad inflection, sounds bored. Bad casting choice there

Not going to lie, the 90's live action film looks better than this. I wanted to like this, any maybe I still will, but so far I'm indifferent. Maybe if the trailer focused more on story and character and not just visuals, I'd get a feeling for it.

Disney tried this before.

Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli. Really didn't work and I didn't get the feel for it. This mostly an animated movie as Mr Moe pointed out. But I think it looks good. If they are able to mine even half the charm of the original animated movie I think kids will love it. Who wouldn't want to see Bagheera and Shere Khan going at each other. Making them look like real animals will make it more of a thrill for kids. And Bill Murray singing The Bare Necessities would be frigging awesome. I would forgive him

I would forgive him playing a cab driver in another film if he did just that. I hope the animation is good and the movie is full of wild, innocent fun with a few scare for the kids,
As someone said though, I'm nor feeling Scarlett Johansson as Kaa.

This is an animated film, apparently the actor is the only bit of live action, so this is another animated adaptation for the most part. I think it looks good, the CGI animation & animated world makes the silliness of talking animals more acceptable. Visually it looks great. The only downside is Scarlett Johansson. She sounds like she is reading lines instead of acting, like she is bored. Absolutely awful delivery. Also, why is King Louie's hand King Kong size at the end?

So, let me be clear upfront...

I hate this idea of Disney recycling their old animated classics into needless live action CGI fests. That being said this was always one I was a little bit more open to. Strange because the animated film was always one of my favorites so I should be more pissy about it being touched. That being said Favreau is capable of great visionary work and this looks terrific. I'm strangley okay with the tone being a little bit differnet, almost like a version of the story set more in real life. I

I usually hate an overabundance of CGI but this actually looks close enough to real life that it works. It feels more like I'm looking at the real jungle brought to life by CGI than it does a movie filled with needless CGI.

Love the voice cast and Johansson sounds great. That being said it is a little bit difficult to seperate her from her voice and does anyone else just feel sort of awkward when you know it's a kids film with the same actress who played Black Widow?

Got to hand it to the soloist he's hit the nail on the head - looks great but could have done with hearing more of the voice cast. Not sure on SJ, would have been better with a more African cast I feel given that many of these creatures are native to their and Asia rather than the U.S. but this is a great film to translate to live action, it's my favourite kids film and I'm excited to see what both Favreau and Serkis will do - although being English I, leaning slightly more in excitement for

Trailer not doing a lot for me so far

Something about talking "real life" animals seems so cheesy to me (maybe Eddie Murphys' Dr. Dolittle?). They should have made it a animated movie with all the CGI in there...

I think the trailer looks good, but for some reason Scarlett Johannson's voice is eerily distracting, it just sounds like her, not like a serpent. I look at the names attached and wonder. Wouldn't it be nice to have some authentic Indian accents for a film about an Indian boy Mowgli in an Indian jungle? Maybe I am just nit-picking. Still looks good.

This looks fantastic and the visuals and scope look terrific. Was kind of hoping we would hear some more dialogue from the other characters so just we could get an idea on how well everything syncs together.

Umm, did Baloo whistle "The Bear Necessities" at the end? Amazing!

Given what I heard about what was shown at D23, I am kind of let down that this is the first trailer.
