Epic! Duncan Jones is the new helmer for the video game adaptation of Warcraft

WHOA. Hold the frakkin’ phone! After going through some serious turmoil with Sam Raimi, it looks like the WARCRAFT movie has found someone else to take the reins– Duncan Jones.

Jones has directed MOON with Sam Rockwell and SOURCE CODE starring Jake Gyllenhaal. I thought MOON was a fantastic debut from Jones, who seems to have a wonderful knack with the sci-fi genre. The script from Charles Leavitt (BLOOD DIAMOND, K-PAX) is being kept under wraps so there’s not much we can tell you about the script aside from the basic idea of the video game. So much love for K-PAK, though.

Now let me get technical here for a second: THR refers to the project as a video game adaptation of WARCRAFT (RTS: real time strategy), which is different from WORLD OF WARCRAFT (MMORPG: massively multiplayer online roleplaying game). WARCRAFT is a gaming franchise consisting of these four core games: Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, and World of Warcraft. If they decide to go with the first game it’s basically what the game title says it is: orcs vs. humans in a medieval fantasy setting. Each game could serve as sequels in a film franchise.

This is a major film for Jones to take on, and could open up many doors for him. So excited!

That video may be from WoW, but it’s still awesome.
